o April – Sept 24/7 – up to three (3) 8-hour shifts 3PM – 11PM; 11PM – 7AM or two 12-hr shifts, dependent on number of contractors and employee preference
Engineering/Facilities Technician Formal Job Description:
Seeking an experienced Technician for Spaceport Systems International (SSI) programs at Vandenberg SFB, CA. SSI supports multiple Government and Commercial Payload Processing and launch vehicle integration activities in a secure environment. The Engineering/Facilities Technician performs preventative maintenance, assists with cleanroom cleaning, and repairs/installs for critical facility systems including: facility control systems, power generation, fire detection, UPS, HVAC, and other electrical and mechanical systems.
This position is required to:
• Perform preventive maintenance and monthly safety inspections of assigned buildings, equipment, and systems
• Troubleshoot equipment utilizing mechanical drawings and electronic schematics
• Assist with contamination control and cleanroom cleaning
• Collect and provide analysis of technical data
• Collaborate with other departments as necessary to meet customer requirements
• Provide customer interface for technical issues during payload processing
• Perform detailed and accurate record keeping
• Handle materials, including operating a fork truck, and participate in critical spare part control
• Promote effective work practices, work as a team member, and show respect for co-workers
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests
• Support the overall goal of maintaining a neat, clean, and comfortable work environment
• Work under limited supervision
• May be a resource to other employees in areas of expertise.
• Assignments are moderately difficult requiring some judgment.
• Perform other duties as required.
Essential Functions:
• Perform repairs, preventative and emergency maintenance for all facilities equipment including various electrical and mechanical systems
• Complete documentation including logbooks, work orders, and purchase requisitions
• Accomplish preventive and corrective maintenance on facilities support systems
• Develop processes and system procedures to ensure 24/7 operation with minimal down time
• Perform cleanroom cleaning in accordance with a contamination control plan
• Occasionally participate in on-call rotation and work extended hours, if required
• Make recommendations for operational improvement for facility systems
• Follow Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and procedures.
• Execute testing of critical facility systems.
• Setup and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of critical facility systems under simulated operating conditions, record result and provide data/quality records at project reviews.
• Perform operations and maintenance tasks that encompass the maintenance, repair, and operation of the critical facilities systems utilized during spacecraft processing.
Qualifications:
• Active TS/SCI clearance
• High School diploma and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
• Communicate both orally and written in a clear and concise manner
• Read, understand, and work from Standard Operating Procedures, electrical drawings, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Able to supervise contractors and vendors performing work in the facility as needed
• Capable of walking and moving around job site
Preferred Additional Skills:
• 6+ years of experience
• In depth knowledge of OSHA regulations
• Experience working around space vehicle flight hardware
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently within a cross-functional team
• Ability to multi-task and manage/accommodate multiple projects simultaneously
