Range Safety & Flight Termination Engineer

Apex Systems is seeking a Range Safety & Flight Termination Engineer to join our team supporting the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures Engineering Directorate. This is a critical role where you will ensure safe and successful flight operations for missile defense tests, working on advanced flight termination systems and range safety requirements.

What You'll Do

• Serve as the Range Safety expert during flight tests, Range Safety Working Groups, and functionality testing.
• Oversee requirements development, allocation, and verification for flight termination systems, including autonomous flight termination systems.
• Provide oversight of GFE and CFE hardware/software development, acceptance, qualification, integration, and checkout.
• Prepare detailed reports documenting status, findings, and recommendations.
• Represent customer interests in technical forums, working groups, and interchange meetings.
• Support component failure investigations and review boards as needed.

What You Bring

• Education & Experience: MA/MS degree + 12 years in missile defense or large DoD programs, OR BA/BS degree + 20 years of relevant experience.
• Clearance: Active Secret clearance.
• Technical Expertise: Knowledge of Range Safety standards (RCC-319, RCC-324).
• Familiarity with missile flight safety analysis and range tracking systems (GPS, inertial measurement, C-band).
• Ability to work independently and lead teams in dynamic environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to travel 25–30% for mission build-up and flight activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with autonomous flight termination systems.
• Flight Test Range Safety experience.
• Background in batteries, RF systems, ordnance devices, and antennas.
• 10+ years of experience in defense and aerospace.
