Materials Analysis Engineer/Technician

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Materials Analysis Engineer/Technician to join our R&D laboratory team. This role focuses on the systematic teardown and analysis of packaging material to determine material composition and properties.

Summary:

  • Conduct material tests on primarily paper-based material and packaging materials,
  • Perform stringent analysis of results and identifying data trends.
  • Executing standard test methods including but not limited to ASTM, TAPPI, ISO, etc.
  • Packaging materials to consist of but not limited to: paper, plastic, bags craft paper, etc.
  • Perform analysis and feasibility of materials that are involved in the automated packaging solutions
  • Associated materials to consist of tape, labels and other adhesives
  • Reporting/analyzing test result data, and also interpreting results specifically for testing
  • Support R&D initiatives through systematic investigation of material properties
  • Contribute to laboratory capability development and process improvements

Background:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical/material science/packaging engineering or pulp & paper science/engineering.
  • Packaging material science or engineering experience
  • Familiarity with TAPPI standards preferred.
  • Strong understanding of chemical composition and material properties
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory safety protocols and procedures
  • Experience with analytical instruments
  • Strong attention to detail and systematic approach to work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Laboratory equipment maintenance experience
