This position supports Messino Cancer Centers in Asheville.
The primary responsibilities of Patient Services Specialist (PSS) include: providing quality customer service by greeting the patient, collecting their information and payments, scheduling appointments, and maintaining medical records. The duties may vary based on office layout and size.
Key performance areas include: creating and maintaining patient charts within the EMR and billing systems, accurately recording and communicating hospital consults, and managing physician requests regarding schedule changes and patient appointments. The specialist will also work with physicians to assign new patients to appropriate clinicians, maintain records of physician assignments, and ensure all patient care is accurate and timely.
Additional responsibilities include: checking in patients, collecting co-pays, verifying patient identity, and notifying the financial counselor of any payment issues. The specialist will also handle phone calls, relay messages, and manage patient appointments and follow-ups.
Job duties common to all stations include: providing support and understanding to patients and their caregivers, answering telephones promptly, activating and deactivating the answering service, and complying with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient care and privacy.
Required qualifications include: a high school diploma, minimally one year of healthcare experience, attention to detail, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications.
