Day in the life:

  • Leading a team of Animal Technicians, Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians
  • On the floor coaching
  • Responsible for 1:1's and training for employees
  • Ensuring coverage and assessing staffing needs daily

  • Cross functional teamwork with the other supervisors
  • Administrative duties to include timecards, supply purchasing and budgeting

Schedule:

  • Full Time: 40 hours/week
  • Five 8-hour shifts per week
  • Sundays - Thursdays with some day and some evening shifts
  • Shift times are between the hours of 7am-8pm

Pay: $25/hour depending upon experience

Job Summary:

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising the operations of the Animal Care and Veterinary Services departments in the shelter setting. This position's key responsibilities include leading the day-to-day operations of the on-site shelter team to ensure proper practices, protocols and procedures are followed, coaching and supervising direct reports, and resolving customer concerns.

Essential Functions:

Operations:

  • Monitor and ensure proper practices and protocols for processing and care of animals, sanitation and cleanliness of the shelter.
  • Assist with maintaining and ordering shelter supplies.
  • Assist with schedule reviews and adjustments to employee scheduling.
  • Participate in the rounds review process, including examining digital records for errors and quality assurance, physically checking an animal's condition and location against records (including follow up) and coaching employees to ensure proper record keeping.
  • Oversee care and handling of animals in the shelter by employees, customers and volunteers to maintain humane standards of care and safety of people and animals.

Leadership:

  • Provide supervision, coaching, and development to direct reports as noted on the organizational chart, acknowledging accomplishments and providing regular feedback.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with direct reports to ensure team members have the resources and support to be successful.
  • Oversee the training of new employees and volunteers.
  • Address and resolve any issues or conflicts within the team.
  • Review and approve timecards within payroll deadlines, working closely with employees to resolve discrepancies.

Communication and Culture:

  • Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.
  • Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.
  • Address and resolve customer concerns and complaints, escalating complex issues as needed.

Technology:

  • Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.
  • Approve timecards for direct reports using ADP.
  • Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
  • Utilize Hybrent for inventory management.
  • Manage and view schedules in Makeshift.
  • View, edit and maintain animal records in Petpoint.

Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information:

Schedule and Attendance:

  • Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings, leadership meetings, all-staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.
  • May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.

Work Environment:

  • Environment can be dirty, wet, warm, and humid.
  • Exposure to zoonotic diseases and pests such as fleas and ticks.
  • Possibility of being bitten or scratched.
  • Exposure to unpleasant odors, chemicals, and noises, including barking.
  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions including but not limited to cold, heat, rain, and snow when outside.
