Principal Engineer – Time-Series Foundation Models

Lorenz Labs, ADI's advanced AI research group, is chartered to pioneer the frontier of Physical Intelligence—developing foundation models and agentic systems that reason about the physical world. We are building the next generation of models that go beyond language and vision, into time, signals, and embodied experience.

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Engineer in Time-Series Foundation Models to lead research and development of large-scale time-series AI models. This role will drive innovation similar to Archetype AI's sensor-based foundation modeling, but with ADI's unique advantage at the intersection of sensors, signals, and edge compute. You will develop and scale models that unify temporal, spatial, and multimodal signals into foundation architectures for anomaly detection, forecasting, and reasoning across physical domains (e.g., industrial, energy, health, robotics). This position combines cutting-edge research, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with ADI's sensor, semiconductor, and systems teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and training of time-series foundation models, including transformers, diffusion, and hybrid neuro-symbolic architectures.
  • Explore cross-domain generalization: from network telemetry to biosignals, from manufacturing logs to multimodal sensor data.
  • Develop new methods for anomaly detection, causal inference, motif discovery, and representation learning in high-dimensional time-series.
  • Partner with ADI hardware, signal processing, and edge compute teams to optimize models for deployment in resource-constrained, real-time environments.
  • Publish at top conferences (NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, KDD, AISTATS) to establish ADI as a thought leader in time-series AI.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners (universities, research labs, startups) to accelerate innovation.
  • Mentor junior scientists and help shape Lorenz Labs' research agenda on physical intelligence.

Must Have Skills

  • Deep expertise in time-series ML, including statistical, deep learning, and foundation models (Chronos, TimesFM, TimeGPT).
  • Strong background in optimization, control theory, Gaussian Processes, and anomaly detection.
  • Track record of industrial research with patents and publications in ML/AI.
  • Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace, etc.), with experience in large-scale training pipelines.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines—ML, hardware, embedded systems, data engineering—and translate research into deployable systems.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in ML research and development (academic + industrial).
  • Demonstrated success in leading research-to-product transitions.
  • Recognized contributions to the ML community (publications, patents, open-source).

Why You'll Love Working at ADI

At Lorenz Labs, you will work at the edge of AI, sensors, and the physical world. You'll have the freedom to explore new paradigms of modeling time and signals, backed by ADI's scale, data access, and hardware ecosystem. This is an opportunity to shape a new category of AI research—foundation models for the physical world—and help build the future of PhysGPT and the 'Artificial Engineer.'
