Junior Transportation Engineer

A. Morton Thomas, Inc. (AMT, Inc.) is seeking a highly motivated Junior Transportation Engineer to assume a key role in the firm's growing South Carolina design. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 2 years of experience working on Transportation projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work on exciting road corridor improvement projects, bridge replacement projects, and bike & pedestrian improvement projects in South Carolina and throughout the Southeast US.

The Position:

We are looking for a Junior Level Transportation Engineer with experience in Roadway Design to assist with design and plan development for transportation projects. This position will be assigned to our Charleston, SC Team and work under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer.

Duties of the position may involve collection of data, existing condition and alternative analysis evaluation for engineering reports, development of horizontal and vertical alignments, performing cross section and superelevation design, roadside barrier design, ADA curb ram design, roadway modeling, sidewalk & share use path design, and providing design support for erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, right of way plans, utility relocation plans, permit application drawings and traffic related plans.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2+ years of Transportation Design experience with emphasis on roadway design.
  • Previous experience with SCDOT plan production and calculation of quantities is preferred.
  • EIT Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience producing high quality plans, maps and 3D models.
  • Experience with MicroStation / GEOPAK w/ corridor modeling is preferred.
  • Experience with Open Roads Designer (ORD) is preferred.
  • In addition to the basic requirements above, the ideal candidate should be technically sound, enjoy working in a team environment and have a passion for transportation engineering.
