Responsible for planning, design, engineering calculations, and construction related to lead and copper service line replacements. Supports delivery of infrastructure improvement and regulatory compliance programs through project coordination, field support, and data management. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate regulatory and project datasets, preparing documentation required for compliance reporting, and coordinating with internal teams, contractors, customers, and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet regulatory requirements, quality standards, and established timelines. The role currently supports implementation of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions/Improvements (LCRR/LCRI) program and related service line replacement initiatives. Position will be based in our Peoria, IL office.
Key accountabilities include providing support services to engineer and/or engineering manager for activities including planning functions, design, facility layout, cost estimates and/or basic engineering calculations; assisting on capital and maintenance projects, including preparation of contract documents, drawings and specifications; preparing and maintaining files, records, drawings, reports, budgets and other data related to engineering projects; performing field surveys to obtain measurements and/or stake easements and perform field inspections to ensure standards are met and proper records are kept; managing projects of limited scope or portions of larger scope projects under the supervision of the Engineering Manager; managing assigned tasks and project elements while adapting to shifting priorities, field conditions, and evolving program needs; corresponding with other entities and customers regarding the status of projects relative to their proposed improvements; supporting regulatory compliance and infrastructure improvement programs through project coordination, data tracking, and documentation management; supporting development and maintenance of program work plans and milestone tracking tools; reviewing and processing contractor invoices, change orders, and work summaries for accuracy and compliance; ensuring project documentation meets regulatory requirements and supports data integrity and audit readiness; maintaining datasets required for LCRR/LCRI compliance, including service line inventory and verification records.
Knowledge/skills include ability to oversee and monitor construction work for adherence to project plans and specifications; ability to work with minimal guidance on varied engineering planning, design and construction related assignments under the direction of an engineer or other supervisory personnel; possess strong, detail oriented, analytical, and conceptual skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to interpret meets and bounds property descriptions; knowledge of and ability to apply theoretical and practical engineering principles to perform basic engineering (hydraulic, mechanical, etc.) related functions; knowledge of design and engineering terminology; knowledge of company standards and procedures. Knowledge of property (easement rights); computer literacy including a major word processor program, spreadsheet, graphics and/or CAD; strong project management skills with the ability to operate with agility, adjusting project scope, timelines, and priorities as program conditions and regulatory needs evolve.
Experience/education includes minimum 5 years' experience as an Engineering Technician or related experience preferred; associate's degree or technical school equivalent with course work in drafting and engineering required, or equivalent experience.
Travel requirements are approximately 10%.
Work environment includes inside office, and outside jobsites or customer homes.
Certifications & licenses include valid driver's license.
