Distributed Energy Resource Integration Engineer
Ameren Missouri has been providing electric and gas service for more than 100 years, and our electric rates are among the lowest in the nation. Ameren Missouri's mission is to power the quality of life for our 1.2 million electric and 132,000 natural gas customers in central and eastern Missouri. Our service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities including the greater St. Louis area.
The Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Integration Engineer is primarily responsible for supporting Distribution Operations with the deployment of DER/DERMS systems, contributing to Wildfire Mitigation efforts, and providing operational support for the Distribution Control Office (DCO). This role ensures safe, reliable and efficient integration of distributed energy technologies into the grid while supporting the company's clean energy transition goals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review designs and cost estimates for Distributed Energy Resource (DER) systems, ensuring compliance with company standards, procedures, and policies.
- Update and maintain documentation of completed field work.
- Evaluate interconnection agreements and construction plans submitted by external parties to identify potential conflicts and recommend actions to prevent or resolve those conflicts.
- Coordinate efforts among project team members, third-party contractors, and consultants to ensure the successful delivery of DER programs and pilot projects on schedule.
- Provide support and input to ensure distribution planning studies are completed in a timely manner for DER projects.
- Serve as a technical resource to division engineers on DER-related projects.
- Assist customers with the DER application process and provide technical guidance on applying Ameren Missouri standards to DER projects.
- Provide technical expertise and training for internal teams working on DER initiatives.
- Assist in the research, development, and implementation of a Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS).
- Lead the development of new DER programs—including solar, wind, storage, and virtual power plants—through requirements gathering, prioritization, and program planning.
- Develop and maintain documentation for new DER programs and pilots, including comprehensive project plans, progress reports, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Define objectives and ensure the successful execution of new DER projects within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Work collaboratively with operations supervisors and other company departments to ensure safe and reliable energy delivery that meets customer expectations.
- Partner with internal stakeholders across Clean Energy Transition, Ameren Illinois Rates & Regulatory, Government Relations, Customer Satisfaction, Economic Development, Communications, Operations, and Corporate Innovation & Planning to drive alignment on clean energy strategy, goals, and objectives.
- Support the development and implementation of wildfire mitigation procedures to ensure operational safety and compliance.
- Provide timely updates of pending wildfire concerns and risk assessments.
- Provide technical support for energy delivery business systems and tools.
- Participate in the restoration of electric service during major storm response efforts by serving in a support role, such as a Damage Assessor to perform site assessment.
- When needed, perform operational checks and commissioning on customer equipment to make sure they are in compliance with company standards, procedures, and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Distribution Operations.
- May require some overnight travel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university required, Electrical Engineering preferred. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is preferred. Real experience in operations with distribution or transmission preferred.
- In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate: Knowledge of specific Ameren applications (e.g., OAS, DOJM) preferred. Basic knowledge of budgeting systems is also preferred.

Compensation Range: $69,300.00 - $133,900.00
*This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends upon applicant's credentials.
At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
