Deck Machinery (Mechanical) Engineering Technician

Amentum has an immediate opening for a full-time Deck Machinery (Mechanical) Engineering Technician with experience assessing, troubleshooting, and repairing various shipboard Naval Deck machinery, such as Sliding Pad Eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting Groups, and chocks. The position will support the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Code 250 in Norfolk, VA.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct specified engineering and technical evaluations and perform equipment functional checks. Perform troubleshooting, testing, analysis, operational oversight, maintenance oversight, and diagnose operational faults for installed US Navy shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Provide training to ship's force personnel as an integral part of every shipboard task in the operation, repair, maintenance, and logistics support of the listed systems. Additionally, provide support for shipboard Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) tasks such as Total Ship Readiness Assessments (TSRA), Combat Systems Command Control Communications and Computer Readiness assessment (C5RA), Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) programs, and Fleet Tech Assist (FTA) events.
  • Assist Ship's Force technicians and government personnel to analyze and resolve malfunctions detected during equipment operation, maintenance, and testing.
  • Analyze equipment operational and inspection data to determine the source of faults, recommend repair, and assist with corrective actions.
  • Advise equipment system engineering changes toward improving quality, reliability, installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Observe operation of equipment during full range of performance and note conditions and parameters for any out-of-specification readings and/or degradations. Report findings and discrepancies.
  • Provide on-the-job training to Ship's Force personnel in the operation, troubleshooting, root cause identification, accomplishment of repairs, and testing of the assigned equipment.
  • Document and submit written feedback to correct errors and omissions in equipment documentation, such as technical manuals, Preventive Maintenance Systems (PMS) cards, Allowance Parts Lists (APLs), ship's drawings, schematics, etc.
  • Provide written and verbal debriefs to the ship's Chief Engineer (CHENG) and other designated personnel on actions taken and the status of the equipment and/or system. The completion of all jobs will be followed up with a written Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR).

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum five (5) years (accumulated within the last seven (7) years) of demonstrated, specialized, hands-on experience working on (i.e., proof of expertise operating, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and assessing US Navy Auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to) Sliding Pad Eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting Groups, and Chocks.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the official capacity of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the aforementioned systems/equipment/components for a US Navy Engineering Activity, US Navy Shipboard Engineering Department, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or industrial/commercial equivalent is also required.
  • Demonstrated experience with the use of measuring/test equipment required in the performance of troubleshooting duties, such as dial indicators, milliamp process clamp meters, digital insulation testers, Infra-Red (IR) thermometer, clamp on current meter, digital tachometer, multimeter, etc.
  • Demonstrated computer/laptop hardware and software proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), necessary for compiling information and developing reports as required by the respective C250 Branch Head.
  • Possess the ability to review, update, and close assigned jobs in the prescribed government database.
  • Provide strong organizational and technical skills and the ability to perform detail-oriented work.
  • A successful applicant will be self-motivated, customer-oriented, and possess strong analytical and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Must have an active Secret US Government Clearance. Note: U.S. citizenship is required to maintain a secret clearance.
