Albemarle is hiring a Mining Engineer. This position is located in our Perth office.
What You Will Do
The Mining Engineer is responsible for doing the technical work required to support Albemarle's hard rock joint venture mining assets in Australia. This involves learning about the operations and applying technical skills to translate the joint venture operators' mine performance, plans, designs and schedules into meaningful insights for Albemarle. Apply operational experience to provide feedback on operational performance up to the mine gate.
Key Responsibilities
Joint Venture Oversight
- Validate the operator's mine production budget, forecast and long-term plans to ensure Albemarle's long-term interest and value is maintained.
- Provide mining operational and technical review and or input where required, to Albemarle's budget, near term (<5 years) and Long-Range Plans (LRP) either through the Australian Joint Venture workflow and or the Charlotte workflows as required.
- Produce technical work required of the mining team for our JV operations.
- Present finding of the technical work undertaken to demonstrate potential value uplift or erosion that comes out of the work, with consideration of risks and opportunities that are associated with the technical output.
- Attend workstream or subcommittee meetings, workshops or forum between shareholders that involves the mining operation such that Albemarle's best interests are represented.
- Influence the joint venture operator to ensure the production performance is closely aligned to Albemarle's annual budget and business strategy.
- Participate in mining operational and technical review as required.
- Attend meetings with JV operations as required or delegated by the Mining Manager.
Risk Evaluation
- Clearly identify risks and opportunities to the operator to ensure that risks are minimized, and opportunities are taken as practicable.
- Quantify risks associated with the mine operation from a safety and production aspect, such that the impacts to Albemarle can be easily translated to potential business outcomes.
- Demonstrate actions that could influence the joint venture operators of the risk(s) such that the risks to the operation are recognized and managed to mitigate any potential negative safety and or production outcomes.
Communication
- Communicate within the Australian Joint Venture team in a timely manner, on active workstreams that is required of the role.
- Communicate within the Australian Joint Venture team in a timely manner, the risks associated with the respective mining operations as soon as they are understood.
- Keep Mining Manager (Australian Joint Venture Albemarle) and the internal Albemarle team, well informed on progress and feedback from the JV sub-committee workstreams where applicable.
- Ensure value adding communications and actions are maintained between the Australian Joint Venture Team and the Charlotte Resources Team.
Technical Knowledge
- Be proactive in seeking information and learning about the operations that are within the hard rock joint-venture.
- Be autonomous and able to quickly learn technical skills that is required of the role.
- Apply the basic principles of mining engineering to available software used for design and scheduling at hand at Albemarle.
What You Bring
Required:
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years experience in the mining industry with majority of exposure in hard rock metalliferous mining open pit and or underground.
- Extensive experience in mine operational execution.
- Experience in in mine technical systems and processes including CAD design, scheduling, and optimization for open pit and or underground.
- Ability to translate technical language to a summary that is linked to Albemarle's core business value.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated experience in mine budgeting, long term and strategic mine planning.
- Exposure to mine technical work at a corporate level.
- Exposure to and understanding of public reporting of Mineral Resources and Reserves (SEC) and Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves (JORC)
