The Payment Processing Crew is a new team that will become Alan's central payment interface. We're building a unified payment platform that powers Alan's products across multiple markets (France, Spain, Belgium, and soon Canada). Our mission is to provide robust, scalable payment solutions while maintaining the highest standards of security and compliance.
We'll act as a transversal crew and an enabler for other crews, managing all interactions with payment providers (Stripe, Adyen, Swan, etc.) and serving as Alan's technical interface for payment-related regulatory matters.
What you'll build:
Provider-agnostic services supporting multiple payment methods (SEPA, card payments, bank transfers…)
High-availability card issuing and payment processing integrations such as Authorization Relays
Composable APIs that other crews can use to build new products
State-of-the-art monitoring and observability solutions for payment services
Tools and infrastructure to enable seamless provider migrations and consolidate multi-provider integrations
Comprehensive documentation and training materials to support other crews
Who we're looking for: We're seeking engineers who are passionate about fintech and want to tackle complex payment challenges. We're starting with a small team (3 engineers) but with plans to grow as our scope widens. You should have at least ONE of:
Integration Expertise: Experience with third-party API integration (webhooks, RESTful, GraphQL). Track record of building highly available, resilient software platforms.
Observability Focus: Strong background in monitoring complex systems (Datadog, Sentry). Ability to build comprehensive dashboards and tracking tools.
Software Architecture and Design Skills: Experience building maintainable, decoupled systems (hexagonal architecture or similar patterns). Experience with BDD tools like Cucumber or similar. Domain-Driven Design a plus.
Payment Domain Knowledge: Understanding of payment systems (SEPA, card payments, banking). Knowledge of payment service providers like Stripe, Adyen, or similar. Experience with payment regulations and compliance. Interest in fintech and payment infrastructure. Opportunity to specialize in either business domains or provider stacks as the team grows.
You'll be joining a team that values engineering excellence and aims to make "simple things simple and complex things possible.
A quick note about the process: While you're applying for a particular area, please note that you may ultimately join a different part of our engineering organization, depending on where we believe you will have the most impact.
We are looking for problem-solver engineers with 5+ years of experience who get excited about simplifying complex business problems:
You'll be able to tackle high-impact & high-risk projects involving many engineers.
You'll design efficient systems and engineering practices to align with and facilitate interactions between multiple teams/products.
You'll have the opportunity to mentor other engineers & lead crews (more details in this article).
You'll be able to contribute to hiring your future coworkers and shape candidates' hiring experience (improving our technical assessment process etc...)
You would be a good fit at Alan if most of this sounds like you:
Well-versed in Object Oriented Programming such as Python, Java, C#, and enthusiastic about web technologies such as modern Javascript.
Willing to work in Python/JavaScript (but you don't need to have experience with those 2 languages!).
Passionate about building products.
Self-starting and entrepreneurial.
Humble and still willing to grow (no matter your seniority!).
Collaborative, enthusiastic about teamwork, learning, and teaching.
Fluent in English (no need to speak French!).
For this opportunity, we are aiming to hire within the D-F level range. But above all, we are looking for high potential and curiosity: make sure to show us this when you apply! Everything else is a bonus.
Important note: we hire people, not roles. If you're excited about this opportunity but don't check every box, we'd love to hear from you. Everyone, no matter how underrepresented, should feel free to apply as it can only bring learnings or success.
If you identify yourself as a woman: Did you know that research shows women often apply only when meeting 100% of requirements? Remember, this is just a guide, not a checklist. We'll be thrilled to receive your application!
