Next Generation Interceptor Systems Engineer

The modern missile-threat landscape is characterized by increasing complexity and rapid evolution, making it essential to adopt a multifaceted defense approach. At Lockheed Martin, we recognize the critical importance of developing and integrating advanced solutions to protect people and nations worldwide. Detecting an enemy missile launch, identifying its intended target, calculating its precise trajectory, launching an interceptor, and guiding it to successfully destroy the threat in mid-air is an extraordinarily complex and challenging task. It demands a seamless integration of advanced technologies, sophisticated systems, and highly skilled personnel. The Lockheed Martin Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) team is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to be part of the team in developing missile defense technology that could forever change our ability to deter and respond to adversity.

As a Systems Engineer on the NGI program, you should have a complete understanding of at least one of the key system subject areas with the opportunity to work in all fields to include systems definition, decomposition, allocation, traceability, maintenance, verification/validation, system integration, analysis, and test. Some of the roles and responsibilities you will leverage your expertise and talent to accomplish include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support major program reviews, including SRR, PDR, and CDR
  • Participate in specification and interface development/documentation, and support the development of verification plans
  • You may also have the opportunity to participate in system-level analyses in support of mission planning/execution and tests at various test ranges. Some travel will be required ~10%

This position is in Rocket City USA, one of the greatest places to work: Huntsville, AL.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience and full knowledge of processes in one or more of the following areas:
    • Systems Engineering approach and processes
    • Requirement definition, decomposition, and allocation
    • Interface definition (ICD, IBDs, IDDs)
    • Missile system analyses used in requirement derivation and verification
    • Planning and coordinating hardware and/or software testing for verification
    • System integration
    • Supporting SRR, PDR, CDR
    • Writing specifications and/or formal, peer reviewed technical documents
    • Using DOORS Requirements Management software
    • Modeling with Cameo software
  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Secret Security Clearance; US Citizenship Required

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in electrical/electro-mechanical design
  • Experience with the following:
    • Working with the Missile Defense Agency
    • Presenting at major reviews
    • Hardware/Software Development
    • Missile or Weapon System Development
    • CONOPS or Architecture Development
    • Support to System Level trade studies
    • Requirement Verification
  • Active or Current Secret Security Clearance

  • Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
  • Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
