We are seeking a skilled Senior Transmission And Distribution Engineer to provide technical expertise and leadership in our Engineering Department. The successful candidate will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge in electrical engineering, specifically within transmission and distribution systems. Responsibilities include providing technical expertise and guidance to the Engineering Department, handling complex assignments and mentoring junior staff. Ensuring compliance with system specifications and conducting system performance analysis, recommending improvements. Evaluating new products and trends, making recommendations for system enhancements. Leading and supervising projects, including the supervision of interns and less experienced engineers. Conducting feasibility studies and preparing design reports, cost estimates, and forecasts based on growth trends and modeling data. Ensuring plans and specifications comply with industry standards and codes (NEC and NESC). Performing constructability reviews and addressing deficiencies in design or maintenance. Preparing and reviewing electric construction standards, job drawings, material lists, cost estimates, and construction labor estimates. Preparing contracts for bidding purposes to secure contractors for line construction, maintenance, and emergency rebuilds. Staying current on industry standards and updating company specifications accordingly. Preparing and reviewing project budgets and justifications. Resolving complex customer and technical issues and responding to emergency call-outs, managing restoration efforts. Promoting and enforcing safety practices and policies. Maintaining relationships with City, County, and State entities, coordinating with other departments as needed.
Essential Skills include a degree from an ABET accredited school in Electrical Engineering. Current AL Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain licensure by comity within six months of hire. Minimum 10 years of practical experience with 12-25 kV distribution and 46/115/138/161 kV transmission systems. Experience with NESC compliance and modeling software like Synergi, ETAP, or similar platforms. Knowledge of materials, equipment, and system model planning. Experience with integrated business, design, and mapping systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications include excellent interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills. Demonstrated ability to interact positively with others at all levels. Good technical knowledge and teaching skills. Subject to recall and on-call duty. Current Alabama driver's license. Subject to periodic random drug and alcohol testing.
The role is primarily sedentary work in an office environment, with standard business hours from Monday through Friday. Occasionally, you may be required to work extended hours in inclement weather while coordinating activities to mitigate severe storm damage. The position includes the use of various equipment such as vehicles, computers, and software like MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, NiSC, Bentley, and Mapping/GIS software.
