Experienced Software Engineer (Embedded)

The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Experienced Software Engineer (Embedded) to support our Space Launch System (SLS) Ground Systems and Integration (GS&I) team located in Huntsville, Alabama. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.

Space Launch System Ground Systems and Integration represent a team of problem solvers whose primary goal is to develop and maintain software to ensure the SLS launch vehicles and associated products are ready for delivery to NASA. The GS&I team develops and supports three key products: Electrical Ground Support Equipment, Enhanced Battery Charge/Discharge Equipment, and MAF Test Flight Computer. The GS&I team directly supports ground-based testing of the SLS vehicle for manufacturing and key test events.

Position Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, tests, debugs, and maintains software that is integrated into embedded devices and systems and meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and translates customer requirements into initial design of software products.
  • Develops, maintains, enhances, and optimizes software products and functionalities for systems integrations.
  • Develops, documents, and maintains architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software products.
  • Debugs and resolves issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products.
  • Implements current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and changes in regulations relevant to software development.
  • Develops, establishes, monitors, and improves software processes, tools, and key performance metrics that align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • 5+ years of experience with C, C++, C#, Python, Java, or Ada.
  • 3+ years of experience with configuration management practices (Git, Subversion, etc.).
  • 1+ years of experience with real-time software development.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Experience in CI/CD frameworks.
  • Experience in software verification, validation, certification, or qualification.
  • Knowledge of the implementation of software test frameworks, tools, or simulations.

Travel: 10%

NASA Access: This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
