We are seeking an experienced and innovative SharePoint Engineer to support enterprise-level collaboration solutions in a high-profile federal environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customizing and configuring SharePoint environments in massive scale farms to meet evolving business needs and mission objectives of a 24/7 user-base from around the globe. This role involves full lifecycle SharePoint development, including web part creation, system integration, testing, and end-user support in a sensitive, mission-critical setting.
Farm Ownership & Topology: Architect, deploy, and manage multiple SPSE farms (Prod/Pre-Prod/Dev, isolated enclaves) using MinRole and best-practice topologies.
Server Hosts, OS & Platform Management: Build and maintain Windows Server hosts (physical/virtual) including IIS, certificates, TLS hardening, syslog/event auditing, and group policy baselines.
Load Balancing & Network Integrations: Configure, operate, and troubleshoot enterprise load balancers (e.g., F5 BIG IP, Citrix ADC/NetScaler, NGINX/HAProxy) for L7 routing, health probes, persistence, and SSL offload.
SQL Server & Databases: Partner with DBAs to design and maintain SQL Server for SharePoint: tempdb layout, MAXDOP, memory, and storage optimization.
Performance, Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Instrument proactive monitoring via ULS logs, Health Analyzer, Windows Performance Counters, and enterprise tools (e.g., SCOM, Splunk, SolarWinds). Lead root-cause analysis of complex farm issues (timeouts, crawl failures, search latency, distributed cache pressure, workflows). Create and automate runbooks and operational playbooks for routine tasks and incident response.
Automation & DevOps: Automate provisioning, patch orchestration, and compliance checks using PowerShell (PnP.PowerShell/CSOM), desired state approaches, and CI/CD where applicable. Build preflight and post-change validation scripts; maintain environment-as-documentation (config drift detection).
Governance, Security & Compliance: Implement and document governance for site lifecycle, quotas, storage, and information architecture. Apply DoD/NIST hardening guidance (e.g., STIGs), conduct vulnerability remediation, and support audits (e.g., POA&M, ATO sustainment). Enforce backups, DR testing, and continuity of operations with periodic validation exercises.
Customer Engagement & Change Management: Translate mission requirements into scalable SharePoint solutions; partner with application and content owners. Lead changes through ITIL-aligned processes (RFCs, CABs), maintain CMDB accuracy, and produce high-quality as-built and SOP documentation. Participate in an on-call rotation for major incidents and maintenance windows.
Location and Travel Requirements: This is an onsite role out of the Washington D.C. Area with travel as needed.
Clearance Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
Required Qualifications: Experience: 6+ years administering SharePoint Server (2016/2019/Subscription Edition) in enterprise or Government environments; 4+ years with Windows Server and IIS; 3+ years working with SQL Server in SharePoint contexts. SharePoint Expertise: Proven success operating multi-farm SPSE environments (Prod/Stage/Dev), including service apps, search topology, distributed cache, AAM, and claims-based auth. PowerShell Proficiency: Advanced scripting for provisioning, patching, reporting, ULS parsing, and task automation (PnP/CSOM familiarity). Load Balancing & Networking: Hands-on with L7 load balancers (F5/Citrix/NGINX), SSL/TLS, health probes, persistence, DNS, reverse proxies, and firewall integrations. SQL/Database Skills: Strong understanding of SharePoint database requirements, Always On, backup/restore, maintenance plans, and performance tuning. Security & Compliance: Experience with DoD 8570/8140 compliance, DISA STIG application, vulnerability management, auditing, and log retention. Operations & ITIL: Comfortable with change management, incident/problem management, CMDB hygiene, and writing SOPs/runbooks. Clearance/Citizenship: U.S. Citizen with an active clearance (or clear path to obtain/maintain per customer requirements). Soft Skills: Strong communication, customer focus, and ability to lead cross-functional troubleshooting and design sessions.
