Software Virtualization Engineer Cabin Connectivity Systems (F/H)

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Software Virtualization Engineer Cabin Connectivity Systems (F/H) to join our department Cabin & Cargo Design Office Wireless Gatelink & Data Systems based in Toulouse, France.

You will be part of a team that develops innovative and complex cabin information systems for all Airbus commercial aircraft programs.

Within the On-board Data Platform (ODP) team, you will be involved in the software virtualization of this advanced modular platform, integrating next-generation wireless access points and onboard software solutions.

The ODP acts as a central communication gateway within the cabin, connecting various systems and enabling a wide range of applications—from passenger internet connectivity to IoT use cases. It hosts virtual machines and containerized applications, partially managed and orchestrated from the ground, forming the basis of the next generation of onboard digital services.

Your work environment:

Toulouse is a dynamic city in the southwest of France, the world capital of aerospace and the European capital of space research, served by an international airport. Ideally located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and close to the Pyrenees, it offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities!

Because we care for you:

  • Financial benefits: attractive salary, profit sharing and participation agreements, well-funded employee savings plan contributed by Airbus, voluntary employee share ownership plan with free shares based on the number of shares subscribed.

  • Individual development: opportunities for growth and numerous training opportunities (catalog of over 10,000 e-learning courses available for free to develop your employability, certifications, accelerated development programs, expert pathways, national and international mobility).

At Airbus, we help you work, connect, and collaborate more easily and flexibly. Wherever possible, we foster flexible working arrangements to stimulate innovative thinking.

Your challenges:

  • Design and specify the software virtualization platform for cabin information systems.

  • Define the technical requirements for hypervisors and containerization environments (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.).

  • Develop concepts for OTA updates, orchestration, and management of virtualized environments from the ground, in compliance with software certification and validation processes.

  • Collaborate with ground and onboard teams to ensure seamless integration and reliable communication.

  • Evaluate and select the most suitable virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU, etc.).

  • Define security and isolation concepts for virtualized applications.

  • Analyze and optimize the performance of the virtualization platform.

  • Participate in the integration and verification of the overall system.

  • Identify, define, and track subcontracted work packages within the scope of the project.

Your ticket to success:

  • Degree in computer science, electronics, or software engineering, with at least 5 years of professional experience.

  • Proven experience in the design and implementation of virtualized software systems.

  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU, or equivalent).

  • In-depth knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Mastery of virtual networks (virtual switches, overlay networks, IP/TCP/UDP protocols).

  • Experience with Linux operating systems.

  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles applied to virtualized environments.

  • Experience with Agile development methods is an asset.

  • Excellent communication skills, team spirit, curiosity, and autonomy.

  • Negotiation level in English and French.

  • Availability for occasional business travel.
