Senior Design Engineer

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to support the airline in-service fleet on repairs of aircraft structure and is responsible for the creation of quality repair solutions in a timely manner from a Design point of view. Duties include performing design efforts for both metallic and non-metallic parts while working in close collaboration with static stress and fatigue colleagues to provide repair solutions. Methods include the use of multiple applications to research aircraft configurations and develop efficient repair solutions to satisfy airworthiness requirements and customers (Airlines/MROs).

Your challenges:

  • Independently create high quality integrated and certified engineering repair solutions for the airlines and internal customers within given time scales. Ensure that the final repair solution brings the aircraft back into an airworthy condition.
  • Review and interpret damage reports of aircraft structures from the Maintenance Repair Organization and develop quality repair solutions. Create or modify a wide range of difficult repair tasks autonomously.
  • Collaborate with F&DT, Stress and other appropriate Airbus departments to develop optimum design solutions for the airline customer.
  • Apply extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Ability to obtain Repair Approval Technical Signatory. Has obtained and utilizes Repair Solution Signatory effectively.

Your boarding pass:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical) with a strong curriculum emphasis on structural design and analysis and mechanics of materials.
  • Minimum nine (9) years total experience in design with airframe structures.
  • Experience in composite airframe structures.
  • MRO/Fleet Engineering experience; MRB Experience.
  • Frequently use widely known technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve technical problems.
  • Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively.
  • Dependable, self-motivated and accessible.
  • Able to perform work activity tasks in an organized manner independently once sufficient training has occurred.
  • Apply knowledge of repair and maintenance documentation, techniques and procedures (SRM, NTM, IPC etc.).
  • Capable of creating and delivering technical documents and presentations
  • Strong computer background, including MS Excel and Google Suite application experience (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail)
  • Able to lead small teams technically to achieve agreed milestones
  • CATIA V5 and/or 3DExperience experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite or remote: Onsite 90%
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
