Airbus Commercial Aircraft Engineer

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for an Aircraft Performance Engineer for On-Board applications as ROPS (Runway Overrun Prevention System) and SGA (Soft Go-Around) focal point based in Toulouse, France.

Aircraft Performance is at the heart of our Aeronautic industry. It is one of the key criteria for an airline to decide to buy an aircraft. Performance is involved from the design phase to the end of aircraft life. The On-Board Performance applications team takes Aircraft Performance into the cockpit!

We are responsible for developing, generating, and delivering aircraft performance models and algorithms that will be used by flight crews when they are operating the aircraft. Furthermore, we are analyzing In-Service Flight Data to better understand flight operations, to evaluate how our On-Board functions are working and to propose functions enhancement.

On-Board Performance Applications team is looking for a focal point for ROPS (Runway Overrun Prevention System) and for SGA (Soft Go-Around) functions. The ROPS and SGA functions stand at the crossroads between Aircraft Safety and Aircraft Performance which are both at the heart of our aeronautic industry. ROPS is indeed a great asset in safety enhancement, recognized as such by the aviation market players: designed to prevent accidents at landing, ROPS equips a lot of aircraft & operators. SGA is already in-service on some programs and remains in development for others.

Main examples of tasks and responsibilities are:

  • Aircraft performance model development (especially landing / braking / Approach)
  • Definition of ROPS performance certification basis with airworthiness authorities
  • Generation of ROPS model by model reduction (machine learning) & SGA model
  • Specification for implementation by systems Design Office of ROPS and SGA models in avionics
  • Laboratory tests (V&V): Lab Test Request definition, follow-up of simulator sessions and analysis of results
  • Support to ROPS Certification
  • Support to customers through in-service reports analysis.

This mission implies close collaboration with other teams such as Low Speed performance specialists, Functions and Systems, Test teams (lab and flight), Customer Support…

Required skills:

  • Engineering oriented in Aeronautics or related discipline
  • Knowledge of Flight and Cockpit Operations and Aircraft flight physics. Competences in IT (scripting, data science) and surrogate modeling is a plus
  • You are open minded with a focus on team spirit and collaboration.
  • You have demonstrated proactivity, adaptability and good communication skills.
  • Advanced level in French and English is required.
