Cabin Engineer I

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Cabin Engineer I to join our Engineering department based in Mobile, AL. You will be developing solutions to a variety of simple to complex engineering problems requiring judgment and ingenuity. This role is a key driver for modernizing our processes by applying digitalization and automation techniques to improve efficiency, quality, and data-driven decision-making. You'll work with internal customers and the manufacturer for the coordination of the 2D/3D Design.

Your Working Environment: The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical oversight of the module to ensure delivery of integrated engineering solutions meeting technical, weight, program, and schedule and cost targets: 40%
  • Revise models and designs based on manufacturing and/or design requirements
  • Monitor and manage HoV customization milestones according to the FCO process.
  • Interface as needed with stress engineers, DMU, drafters, designers, suppliers and technical management personnel to assure manufacturability of designs.
  • Resolve technical problems by all possible means, including applying data-driven methodologies and developing scripted solutions for recurrent issues.
  • Create project specific deliverables including feasibility studies, integration plans, and clash investigation, while actively identifying opportunities to automate the generation of routine reports and documentation: 30%
  • Provide input to the design engineering elements of the integrated project plan to ensure it is technically robust.
  • Provide technical input to engineering project teams, including insights gained from data analysis and process automation initiatives.
  • Ensure that the design can be certified and all the necessary data for test and certification is produced: 25%
  • Prepare engineering models and documents that meet compliance with engineering principles, regulatory requirements, company standards and customer contract requirements and apply those requirements.
  • Provide input to engineering processes and suggest modifications regarding the design and development of aircraft cabins and components.

Additional Responsibilities: Digital Engineering & Automation

  • Other duties as assigned: 5%
  • Process Automation & Scripting: Proficiency in Python to parse technical data, automate repetitive tasks (e.g., document checks, report generation), and develop tools to improve team efficiency. Familiarity with data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas) is highly desirable.
  • Workflow & Collaboration Automation: Demonstrated ability to develop Google Apps Scripts to streamline workflows, consolidate data from various sources, and create automated dashboards and reports within Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive).
  • Interfacing & Data Extraction: Experience using tools like Selenium to automate interaction with web-based supplier portals or internal applications, enabling efficient data extraction and submission.
  • AI & Future Technologies Mindset: Proven expertise in applying the Google Gemini ecosystem (Gemini web app, custom Gems, Workspace) to accelerate engineering workflows through deep research, data analysis, and automation.
  • Adaptability: Must be a proactive learner, self-directed, and have a proven ability to develop and apply new digital toolsets to solve complex engineering problems.

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Required:
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering
  • ~1 year of experience in the aerospace industry with demonstrated knowledge of product design, AI tools and Google Gemini.
  • 10% Domestic and International Travel involved
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship
  • Candidates must have strong proficiency using Google G Suite
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and be proactive working with teams
  • Demonstrate flexibility regarding the changing working environment
  • Must have the ability to write reports, specifications, work statements, requirements and other technical documents
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Detailed-oriented with excellent proof-reading and writing skills
  • Effective communication skills in English
  • Must be able to present information and answer questions related to produced documentation
  • Provides a clear communication link between vendors and the engineering team
  • Communicate frequently with other departments internally, externally and internationally
  • CAD experience is essential with Catia V5. Strong capability in MS Office/Google Products. Ability to learn new tool sets as required
  • Preferred:
  • Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience with Airbus cabin and cargo engineering
  • French, German, or Spanish skills a plus
  • Experience with PDM (TAKSY, PASS-SSI)

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite or remote: 100% Onsite unless otherwise approved.
  • Vision: Able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings as part of the daily routine.
  • Hearing: Able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms as required on a daily basis.
  • Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications as part of the daily routine.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment as part of the daily routine.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer as part of the daily routine.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice approximately 10%.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces as required.
