QA Engineer (Automation)
Agileana is an agile web development company serving mission-driven organizations and U.S. government agencies. We build accessible, secure, performant Drupal websites that follow USWDS and Section 508/WCAG standards. We're creating a place where competent, responsible, proactive, and transparent people can do work they enjoy—with colleagues they respect—earn well, and still have time for life.
Our team has supported the NASA, Department of State, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Smithsonian, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the United States Courts.
We're hiring a QA Engineer (Automation) to own the test strategy and build reliable test automation for Drupal web apps and supporting services. You'll collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and DevOps to ship high-quality software, faster—while meeting government-grade accessibility, security, and performance requirements. MUST BE A LEGAL US RESIDENT.
What You'll Do
- Own test automation: Design, implement, and maintain UI/API test suites (smoke, regression, and end-to-end) using tools like Playwright, Behat, and PHPUnit/Drupal Test Traits.
- Plan and execute testing: Translate user stories and acceptance criteria into test plans and test cases; drive risk-based testing across functional, accessibility, performance, and security domains.
- Accessibility first: Validate WCAG 2.2 AA/Section 508 using axe-core, Pa11y CI, WAVE, and manual assistive-technology workflows; contribute to 508 remediation plans.
- Shift-left quality: Participate in backlog grooming and design reviews, advocate testability, define acceptance criteria, and add BDD scenarios (Gherkin).
- CI/CD quality gates: Integrate tests into Bitbucket Pipelines/Jenkins/GitHub Actions; maintain green pipelines and fast feedback for PRs.
- Data & environments: Manage reliable test data, seed scripts/fixtures, and ephemeral environments (Docker/containers) to keep tests deterministic.
- Quality reporting: Track coverage and trend metrics (defect escape rate, flakiness, MTTR, app vitals) and drive continuous improvement.
- Gov web standards: Verify USWDS conformance, content structure, and analytics tagging where applicable.
What You Bring (Required)
- 3+ years in software QA with a strong automation focus (web apps).
- Hands-on with automated testing software and comfortable reading/writing test scripts.
- Practical knowledge of Drupal (content types, roles/permissions, modules, config, caching) or strong CMS test experience and eagerness to learn Drupal fast.
- Solid grasp of SDLC/Agile (Scrum or Kanban), risk-based testing, and CI/CD.
- Accessibility testing familiarity (WCAG/508) using axe/Pa11y and basic manual checks.
- Experience with test case management and defect tracking in Jira.
- Clear communication, collaborative mindset, and attention to detail.
- Remote work readiness with a reliable, permanent home office setup.
- Proof of U.S. residency.
