Traveling Field Service Technician

Join our team as a Mechanical Service Technician, where you will assist with the installation of preassembled machinery into various pack houses throughout Washington and other parts of North America. This role requires the ability to read blueprints, layout parts, and perform mechanical installations while traveling extensively.

Responsibilities

  • Install fruit and vegetable packing house equipment using blueprints and layout parts.
  • Utilize MIG and TIG welders to assist with machinery installation.
  • Read blueprints and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Assemble and troubleshoot machinery on-site, including belt conveyors, sorters, bin dumping equipment, and fruit sizers.
  • Serve existing accounts by investigating complaints, conducting tests, and resolving problems.
  • Establish service by studying system requirements, ordering components, and performing acceptance tests.
  • Maintain customer rapport by examining complaints, suggesting improved methods, and recommending system improvements.
  • Produce timely and detailed documentation of service reports, installation reports, and test reports.
  • Maintain customer confidence by keeping service information confidential.
  • Update job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities and departmental cross-training.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency with tape measures, blueprints, and a willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Basic hand and power tools proficiency for securing nuts and bolts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Field service experience in pneumatics, preventive maintenance, and hydraulics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Electrical/electronics knowledge is a bonus.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly of equipment/products using fasteners, nuts, rivets, and hand tools.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on customer equipment.
  • Complete mechanical rebuilds and component replacements.
  • Review equipment prior to shipping to identify possible issues and ensure smooth operation for the customer.

Work Environment

Work inside pack houses performing installations and service, primarily during day shifts with occasional night shifts based on workload. The role involves extensive travel, driving to the union gap shop on Monday mornings, carpooling to client sites, and staying in hotels Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays. A per diem of $35/day is provided, and hotel accommodations are covered.

Pay and Benefits
