Now Hiring: Material Handler

This role focuses on entry-level assembly and handling of circuit card assemblies and related electronic components in a clean, controlled production environment. You will follow detailed work instructions, build and assemble electronic and mechanical sub-assemblies, and help ensure products meet quality and safety standards. The position emphasizes continuous improvement, adherence to safety procedures, and support of the organization's mission, values, and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality work that meets prescribed standards, customer commitments, schedules, and budget expectations.
  • Follow written work instructions, build documentation, models, and drawings to perform assembly tasks accurately.
  • Perform entry-level assembly functions including preparation, mechanical assembly, harness and cable assembly, printed circuit board sub-assemblies, spray application, and inspection within production.
  • Carry out simple assemblies and hardware installation such as screws, washers, and nuts with a basic understanding of build documentation.
  • Assemble electronic components for applications such as aircraft and submarines by reading and interpreting blueprints and wire tabulation.
  • Perform circuit board assembly and repair, including soldering and rework as required.
  • Conduct pull tests, verify tooling, and use torque tools correctly to ensure secure and compliant assemblies.
  • Interpret and assemble multiple units within the department, performing basic troubleshooting when issues arise.
  • Access and use production tools such as routers, parts lists, and work instructions to complete assigned work.
  • Perform wire preparation, auto bonding, sleeving, crimping, and wiring tasks for cable and harness assemblies.
  • Apply quality control practices to verify that assemblies meet specifications and standards.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety procedures, including those governing the handling of materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment (WHMIS).
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including ESD wrist straps and smocks as needed.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and uphold the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities such as LEAN events, "Six S" activities, and action teams as required.
  • Meet overtime requirements as needed to support production schedules and customer demand.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with assembly in a production or manufacturing environment, particularly electronic or mechanical assembly.
  • Ability to read and follow written work instructions, build documentation, blueprints, and wire tabulation.
  • Hands-on skills in circuit board assembly, circuit card assembly, and electronic assembly.
  • Proficiency with soldering for electronic components and circuit board repair.
  • Mechanical assembly skills including installation of hardware such as screws, washers, and nuts.
  • Ability to perform cable and wire harness assembly, including crimping, wiring, and sleeving.
  • Familiarity with quality control practices and inspection of assembled components.
  • Comfort using hand tools, torque tools, and basic production equipment.
  • Ability to access and work with production tools such as routers, parts lists, and work instructions.
  • Understanding and application of safety procedures for handling materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment in accordance with WHMIS.
  • Capability to perform basic troubleshooting on assemblies and production issues.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience assembling electronic components for complex applications such as aircraft or submarines.
  • Experience in circuit board repair and panel board or board assembly work.
  • Exposure to assembly line environments and production workflows.
  • Familiarity with LEAN principles and participation in continuous improvement or "Six S" activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production setting and support organizational culture and values.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Willingness and ability to work required overtime to meet production demands.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean and controlled production environment focused on electronic and mechanical assembly. The dress code is casual, with most assemblers wearing ESD wrist straps and smocks over their personal clothing to protect sensitive components. You will work with hand tools, torque tools, soldering equipment, and production systems such as routers, parts lists, and work instructions, while following WHMIS safety procedures for materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment. The standard shift runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and every other Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Overtime is an expectation and a requirement once hired, to support production schedules and customer needs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Johnstown, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
