Maintenance Engineer

The Maintenance Engineer will maintain, troubleshoot, and improve CNC machinery and related industrial equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations. This role focuses on preventive maintenance, rapid response to equipment breakdowns, and continuous improvement of machine performance and reliability in a clean, organized manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, schedule, and execute preventive maintenance tasks for CNC equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and plant standards.
  • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance logs, documentation, and detailed equipment service records.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system faults on CNC machines, robots, and support equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on additional equipment including tappers, sorters, and threading machines.
  • Use root-cause analysis to identify underlying issues, minimize repeat failures, and guide effective corrective actions.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production interruptions and downtime.
  • Perform component replacement and repair on spindles, ball screws, bearings, pumps, motors, drives, control boards, and other critical machine components.
  • Inspect, align, and calibrate CNC machine components to ensure precision performance and product quality.
  • Work with PLC and CNC controls to test inputs and outputs and verify proper operational integrity.
  • Recommend upgrades, adjustments, and modifications to improve machine reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams focused on process and equipment improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere strictly to all environmental, health, and safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Ensure that all equipment repairs and modifications comply with OSHA, NFPA, and applicable local regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to machine operators and production staff on proper machine usage and care.
  • Support installation, setup, and commissioning of new CNC machinery and equipment being brought into the facility.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to coordinate maintenance activities around production needs.
  • Travel to the Michigan facility for 6–8 weeks of training as needed, following the provided schedule and guidelines.
  • Work overtime hours as necessary to support production requirements and urgent maintenance needs.
  • Operate and maintain CNC machines from brands such as Mazak, Okuma, Porta Mills, Samsung, Hydromat, Cincinnati Grinders, and Sinico, as applicable.
  • Work with machine controls including Fanuc, Siemens, and Haas to troubleshoot and optimize machine performance.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Proven experience with industrial electrical troubleshooting, including working safely under Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for CNC machines, robots, and related support equipment.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial machinery and documenting maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work with machine controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, and Haas.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Willingness and ability to work 3rd shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.).
  • Ability to work overtime hours as needed to support production and maintenance demands.
  • Ability to travel to Michigan for 6–8 weeks of training as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of PLC systems and their role in machine control and automation.
  • Prior experience specifically in CNC maintenance environments.
  • Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) best practices and safety standards.
  • Comfort working with a variety of CNC machine brands, including Mazak, Okuma, Porta Mills, Samsung, Hydromat, Cincinnati Grinders, and Sinico.
  • Ability to perform root-cause analysis and recommend long-term corrective actions.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear technical guidance to operators and production staff.
  • Detail-oriented approach to documentation, record-keeping, and equipment history tracking.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to participate effectively in cross-functional improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

This role is based in a fastener manufacturing facility that serves the automotive industry. The plant is described as very clean and well organized, with a strong focus on safety and efficiency. The position operates on 3rd shift, from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with overtime as needed to support production and maintenance demands. The facility is expanding its capabilities by bringing machinery from a Michigan site, increasing the variety of equipment and product offerings. During the initial training period, some intermittent travel to Michigan is required; hotels are paid for and a per diem is provided for meals, with training scheduled Monday through Friday and weekends at home. After training, the role is fully on-site in Hudson, OH with no ongoing travel. The environment includes working with CNC machines from brands such as Mazak, Okuma, Porta Mills, Samsung, Hydromat, Cincinnati Grinders, and Sinico, and using controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, and Haas. Tools are provided, and a uniform program is available for employees who choose to take part.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hudson, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
