Lead Operating Engineer
Join our team as an Operating Engineer where you'll assist in supervising and directing maintenance staff on shift and monitor performance of assigned responsibilities. You will oversee maintenance departmental service requests ensuring minimal disruption and inconvenience. You'll troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment to restore it to satisfactory operating condition.
Responsibilities
- Assist in training and supervising operations staff to expand their capabilities, including demonstrating the proper use and care of tools, providing hands-on instruction in basic maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Supervise and implement the preventative maintenance program, scheduling tasks to minimize disruption, ordering parts and equipment, and maintaining inventory.
- Direct contracted maintenance work, ensuring timely performance and overseeing equipment warranty obligations.
- Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on all building systems including fire/life safety, mechanical, electrical, and emergency backup systems.
- Analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions, and take corrective action.
- Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials while maintaining a clean and safe workplace.
- Ensure adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies, submitting purchase-order requests and developing sources for stock materials.
- Manage the operational leadership and administration of the engineering team, ensuring cost-effective operation of machinery and systems.
- Oversee activities of contractors within the building, maintaining professionalism and striving for 100% uptime.
- Keep records of building rounds, readings, engineering logs, and data sheets.
- Provide advance training and notification to contractors regarding building's critical functions.
- Understand and comply with emergency escalation procedures.
- Ensure strict adherence to engineering guidelines, processes, and procedures.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED with four years of experience in the building maintenance industry.
- Accredited trade school degree in HVAC, electronics, or related field.
- Union training and certification.
- Knowledge of safe and proper use of tools such as ladders, lifts, hand tools, volt meter, drain auger, plumbers helper, safety goggles, ear protection, and fire extinguisher.
- Extensive electrical work experience and licensing.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Mathematical skills for calculating figures and amounts such as load balancing, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, chillers, boilers, and building automation systems (BAS).

Work Environment
Work alongside a team of 18 responsible for a 300-room hotel, parking garage maintenance, put-put course, and theatre hall. We are preparing to break ground on a baseball field and stadium on the campus as well. The shift is Tuesday to Saturday, 3 pm to 11:30 pm.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of McLean, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
