Industrial Electrician
This Industrial Electrician role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial electrical systems and machinery in a heavy steel manufacturing environment. You will work primarily on 12v–480v and 3-phase systems, support production equipment and facility infrastructure, and contribute to special installations and projects. The position offers 2nd or 3rd shift opportunities with regular overtime and a strong package of benefits and union support.

Responsibilities:
- Perform industrial electrical maintenance and troubleshooting on heavy industrial machinery, working with voltages from 12v up to 480v and 3-phase power.
- Diagnose and repair electrical issues throughout the plant, including circuits, motors, lighting, control boxes and panels, and machine control systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment such as conveyors, robotic arms, rollers, furnaces, and mobile equipment to minimize downtime and support production.
- Conduct minor mechanical work on conveyors, gears, bearings, and related components as needed to support overall equipment reliability.
- Read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, blueprints, and drawings to perform accurate installations, repairs, and modifications.
- Work with motors, sensors, switches, photo eyes, PLCs, VFDs, breakers, and wiring to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
- Assist with special electrical installations and facility projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards and production requirements.
- Use electrical test equipment and OHMs measurements to diagnose issues with circuits, motors, and panels.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical and related mechanical systems to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
- Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to prioritize work, support continuous operations, and respond promptly to breakdowns.
- Follow all safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices while working around moving mechanical parts, furnaces, and other industrial equipment.
- Support training and knowledge sharing by working with individuals who are progressing toward their Journeyman's card, as applicable.
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance work, repairs, and parts used in accordance with plant and union requirements.
- Adapt to working extended hours, including frequent overtime, to support production needs and meet operational goals.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum of 4 years of previous Industrial Electrician or industrial maintenance experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience working with 480v and 3-phase electrical systems.
- Proven experience in machine repair and electrical troubleshooting on industrial equipment.
- Strong experience working with electrical circuits, OHMs measurements, motors, panels, sensors, switches, and photo eyes.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Demonstrated proficiency in industrial electrical maintenance, including diagnostics and repair.
- Experience working with PLCs and VFDs in an industrial setting.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, talk, and hear while performing job duties.
- Ability to frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance while working on equipment.
- Ability to occasionally sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell as part of maintenance and repair tasks.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds safely.
- Adequate vision capabilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime of approximately 50–60 hours most weeks.
- Comfort working in a hot, loud, and heavy industrial environment around moving mechanical parts and furnaces.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Journeyman Card in an electrical or industrial maintenance trade is highly valued and may qualify for top pay rates without additional testing.
- Trade school certificate for a journeyman course, an Associate's Degree, or equivalent technical education is preferred.
- Experience working in a unionized industrial or manufacturing environment is beneficial.
- Familiarity with robotic arms, furnaces, conveyors, and other heavy steel manufacturing equipment is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance and production teams and communicate clearly about technical issues and repair status.
- Willingness to receive minimal additional training while working toward a Journeyman's card, if applicable.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to lockout/tagout and other safety procedures.
- Comfort using test instruments and tools required for electrical diagnostics and repair.

Work Environment:
The role is based in a unionized, hot, and heavy industrial steel manufacturing facility that produces mechanical steel tubing, tubular shapes, plated bar and tubing, and fabricated parts and precision components. The environment is heavy industrial and can be dirty, with high heat around furnaces and generally fair temperatures throughout the rest of the plant. Noise levels are usually loud, especially near tube drop-off areas and moving mechanical parts. Employees frequently work around conveyors, rollers, furnaces, robotic arms, and other large industrial machinery, and may occasionally encounter wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, outside weather, and extreme heat. The physical demands include regular standing and walking, frequent use of hands and arms, climbing or balancing, and occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The work is described as laid back and not very physically strenuous overall, despite the industrial setting. This is a union environment where it takes approximately 800 working hours to be brought fully into the union, with dues starting after 30 days and the ability to bid on positions and eventually obtain a set shift. The standard training schedule is on 1st shift (7:00 AM–3:00 PM), with ongoing roles available on 2nd shift (3:00 PM–11:00 PM) and 3rd shift (11:00 PM–7:00 AM), each offering a shift differential. Regular overtime is expected, with typical weekly hours in the 50–60 hour range. Appropriate industrial workwear and safety gear are required in all production areas.

The pay range for this position is $56000.00 - $73000.00/yr.
