Forklift Operator

The Forklift Operator safely and accurately handles inbound and outbound freight in a warehouse that supports utility and power line operations. This role focuses on loading and unloading materials, preparing shipping documentation, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and supporting basic office functions such as taking customer calls, processing orders, and performing inventory checks.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a forklift to accurately load and secure outbound freight shipments.
  • Unload inbound freight, verify shipment accuracy, and store materials according to established organizational procedures.
  • Prepare and complete all required paperwork for outbound freight shipments, including bills of lading, and file documents properly.
  • Clean and maintain work areas, including cleaning after removing racks and ensuring a tidy warehouse environment.
  • Collaborate and communicate closely with the Service Center Supervisor and Area Marketing Manager regarding orders and materials to be shipped or received.
  • Assist the Service Center Supervisor with office procedures as needed, including taking customer calls, processing orders, and checking inventory using the computer system.
  • Perform cycle inventory counts for customers and update records accurately in the computer system.
  • Work additional or irregular hours as required by business needs, including emergency storm situations or as instructed by leadership.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings as needed or instructed by leadership.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of warehouse experience.
  • Valid forklift license or the ability to acquire and maintain a forklift license.
  • Proficiency in safe forklift operation in a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to accurately load, unload, and secure freight.
  • Ability to prepare and manage shipping documentation, including bills of lading.
  • Basic computer skills to process orders, check inventory, and perform cycle counts.
  • Strong attention to detail for verifying shipment accuracy and maintaining records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Willingness to work hours required by business necessity, including during emergencies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a warehouse that handles industrial or utility-related materials.
  • Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Ability to multitask between warehouse operations and basic office responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Customer service skills for handling customer calls and order inquiries.

Work Environment

Work hours may vary based on business needs, including occasional extended or irregular shifts during emergency storm situations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Watterson Park, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
