Field Service Technician

The Field Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs complex automated machinery at customer sites while delivering exceptional customer service. This role combines advanced electrical, electronic, mechanical, and robotic troubleshooting with strong customer management skills. You will independently manage a large service territory, provide on-site technical support, conduct operator and maintenance training, and ensure that equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a large service territory, including effective planning of travel, scheduling service calls, and organizing work to meet customer needs.
  • Manage company assets such as parts, tools, and technical information to ensure they are properly maintained, accounted for, and available when needed.
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting and repairs on machines experiencing complex electrical, mechanical, or pneumatic problems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems down to the component level to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot robotic systems, servo-controlled machinery, and related automation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and write code as required for servo and robotic systems to optimize performance and resolve issues.
  • Troubleshoot robotic, PLC, and motion controllers, drives, HMIs, and motors from manufacturers such as Rockwell, Siemens, and Indramat.
  • Install and troubleshoot relay controls and variable frequency drives (VFDs) to ensure proper operation and integration with existing systems.
  • Perform installation, training, and troubleshooting for robotic systems, including start-up, adjustment, and verification of performance.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing formal training for customer operators and maintenance personnel on machine operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to support installation, diagnosis, and repair activities.
  • Apply knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics to diagnose and repair related system issues on customer equipment.
  • Perform electrical and electronic wiring, assembly, and repair work according to safety standards and technical specifications.
  • Maintain a professional attitude, manner, and appearance at all times while representing the company at customer sites.
  • Submit accurate and timely service reports, expense reports, daily time sheets, and related documentation after each service visit.
  • Provide detailed technical feedback during and after each customer visit to support continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with customers to explain issues, recommended repairs, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Work a demanding schedule that includes travel to various customer locations as required by service needs.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated customer management skills with a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Proven ability to independently manage a large service territory, including effective management of parts, tools, and company information.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and mechanical systems down to the component level.
  • High level of computer literacy and ability to use digital tools for diagnostics, reporting, and communication.
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of robotics and servo-controlled machinery.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and write code required for servo and robotic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot robotic, PLC, and motion controllers, drives, HMIs, and motors, including platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, and Indramat.
  • Experience with installation and troubleshooting of relay controls and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Robotic installation, training, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to provide formal training to customer operators and maintenance personnel on machine operation and maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in assembly, repair, and service of industrial machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Proficiency in electrical and electronic wiring, installation, and repair.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a customer service–oriented mindset.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude, manner, and appearance at all times.
  • Willingness and ability to work a demanding schedule that includes travel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience creating detailed service documentation, including service reports, expense reports, and daily time sheets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for providing technical feedback to internal teams and customers.
  • Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
  • Comfort working in varied industrial environments that may include dust, dirt, and noise.
  • Attention to detail in managing parts, tools, and technical information to support efficient service operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Covington, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $66560.00 - $90000.00/yr. 6% 401(k) company match with no vesting period, comprehensive medical/dental/vision insurance, 8 weeks of paid parental leave, and generous PTO with 12 paid holidays
