Engineering Technician

We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Technician to support the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of LED lighting products. This role bridges the gap between engineering and production, playing a critical part in ensuring high-quality, innovative lighting solutions are delivered to the market efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, prototyping, and testing of LED lighting products and systems.
  • Build, assemble, and modify product prototypes or samples based on engineering specifications.
  • Perform electrical and photometric testing of LED fixtures, drivers, and components using appropriate lab equipment.
  • Document test procedures, results, and product data accurately.
  • Provide technical support in root cause analysis, failure mode evaluation, and product improvements.
  • Collaborate with production, purchasing, and quality departments to transition new products into manufacturing.
  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment and ensure a safe, organized lab environment.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and datasheets.
  • Support compliance testing efforts for UL, DLC, Energy Star, and other standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to product performance and cost.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing equipment and tools.
  • Basic understanding of LED technology, lighting controls, and thermal management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic CAD tools such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and drawings.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive and collaborative work style.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with lighting standards such as UL, DLC, LM-79/LM-80, and Title 24.
  • Experience working in a lighting test lab environment.
  • Knowledge of PCB assembly, soldering, or circuit troubleshooting.

Work Environment

The facility is clean and quiet, with half dedicated to a warehouse and the other half consisting of assembly stations used for building LED displays and lighting. Established in 2011, the company takes pride in producing high-end LED systems utilized in various buildings, maintaining a strong commitment to quality and domestic manufacturing.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Libertyville, Illinois.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $80000.00/yr. You will be eligible to enroll in the company medical plan two months from your date of hire. StarTek will cover 70% of the cost of the medical insurance plan. StarTek also offers a dental and vision plan but does not subsidize the cost of these plans. The position includes 5.5 Paid Time Off (PTO) days for the remainder of 2025 that are vested over the course of the year. Beginning 2026, the position will include 15 Paid Time Off (PTO) days each year that are vested over the course of the year. You will be eligible to enroll in StarTek's 401K plan two months from your full-time hire date. StarTek will match your contribution up to 4%. Your position includes paid holidays. The paid holidays include New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day.
