Building Engineer

The Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility equipment across all systems. This role requires demonstrated technical expertise in at least one core trade—Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations—along with multi-skilled capabilities in other areas to effectively complete daily and weekly assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire/life safety, and control systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Oversee facility services including preventive maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, contracted services, and general maintenance.
  • Maintain HVAC systems and related equipment through cleaning, inspection, calibration, and part replacement to ensure optimal performance.
  • Record equipment readings and make necessary adjustments to maintain proper operation.
  • Adhere to safety protocols for the storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials, and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Conduct periodic inventory checks of tools and instruments.
  • Monitor the quality and cost of maintenance work performed by external contractors.
  • Follow all safety procedures and promote good housekeeping practices; identify and recommend solutions for potential hazards.

Essential Skills

  • Technical expertise in Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations.
  • Troubleshooting skills for commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • 5–7 years of experience in maintaining and repairing commercial building systems.
  • EPA 608 Type II Certification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Completion of two years of trade school in electrical system design, refrigeration, or HVAC.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Southlake, Texas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
