Senior Engineer, Resilient Infrastructure Systems

Aecom Kelowna is hiring a Senior Engineer, Resilient Infrastructure Systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide and/or supervise the delivery of professional highway design services.
  • Serve as a fully capable professional and engineer of record with advance knowledge in developing design procedures to facilitate high quality and cost-effective highway design solutions.
  • Lead the analysis, development, and implementation of multi-modal transportation design solutions for complex and major highway projects.
  • Provide professional advisory services in highway design engineering to clients, project teams and other partners.
  • Complete or lead highway design deliverables through internal and external sources including designs, cost estimates, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic and working drawings.
  • Review the deliverables for accuracy, completeness, functionality, and adherence to BC Provincial standards, procedures and requirements.
  • Conduct or lead interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables and develop estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Provide design review services, expert advice including terms of references for traffic impact studies and reviews on land development projects.
  • Keep current with highway design engineering policies and standards through ongoing professional development, participation in ongoing learning webinars, conferences, seminars and literature review.
  • Supervise licensed and non-licensed professional and technical staff including assignment of work, guidance, mentoring, development and evaluation of performance plans.
  • Experience managing concurrent projects of substantial scopes and interpreting highway design project specifications and standards, and providing direction and leadership to project teams.
  • Lead proposals and teaming for highway design assignments through collaboration with other business lines within AECOM.
  • Develop and train others in the field of CAD highway designs per provincial standards.
  • Project manage highway design projects from planning through design and construction including collaboration with full design team and client.
  • Provide or lead the delivery of design reports including criteria, intent, constructability, and staging.
  • Prepare or lead the delivery of design and construction status reports for client and project teams.
  • Lead and assist with the development of project scope, schedule, and budget alongside client, project manager and other team members.
  • Perform or lead field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with construction contract documents and design intents.
  • Develop project specific design specification and criteria including use of CAD and other software.
  • Organize and lead project meetings with client and public and oversees all aspects of the project to ensure client needs are met.
  • Assist with the preparation of regulatory requirements, permits, environmental assessments and stakeholder consultation.
  • Direct and oversee highway design work and help build highway engineering business profile.
  • Propose opportunities and assist with business development and highway engineering team building in BC.
  • Implement corporate policies related to quality management and sustainable legacies.
  • Supporting AECOM's vision, values, and key business development priorities.
  • Climate risk assessment including specifying a level of climate risk tolerance.
  • Systems-based approaches to advance and support resilience program, policy, and practice development.
  • Nature-based solutions and infrastructure education, skill, and training.
  • Road safety including ambient condition assessment education, skill, and training including flexible, innovative, and inclusive engineering practice.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering + 8 years experience in transportation with direct responsibility for highway geometrics design or Technical Diploma in Applied Science with a minimum 10 years progressive experience in highway geometrics design.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration with Engineers & Geoscientists BC.
  • Experienced with the applications of BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit's Provincial Standard Specifications, BC Supplement to the TAC Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Master Municipal Construction Documents and BC Building Codes will be an asset.
  • Ability to interpret application of the BC Motor Vehicle and BC Transportation Acts will be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and interpreting highway engineering policies, practices, procedures, standards, and regulations in BC.
  • Advanced experience working with highway design practices and standards.
  • Experience working with and providing advice and counsel to government clients and a variety of stakeholders.
  • Preference may be given to those who have a minimum of 5 years hands on experience working and creating designs using Civil 3D.
