Safety Service Patroller Supervisor

AECOM is seeking an experienced, creative, and highly talented SSP Supervisor in the Virginia Beach region. This position will be a direct report to the Regional Safety Service Patrol (SSP) Manager with direct communications with front-line staff throughout their area of responsibility.

The responsibilities of the SSP Supervisor include, but are not limited to:

  • Front line supervisor who manages individual contributors.
  • Responsible for the overall quality of staff's work and oversees projects.
  • Has project or task level financial accountability.
  • Typically supervises a headcount of less than 10 people.
  • Coaching, mentoring and training development of SSP staff
  • Real-time shift management and scheduling for readiness of operation staff and assigned equipment
  • Communicate with mid and high-level staff in real-time incident management status
  • Present recurrent staff training needs and materials
  • Participation in After Action or other assigned meetings as requested
  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures
  • Maintain up-to-date training and certifications.
  • Other ad-hoc initiatives as assigned by the Project Management Team.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School / GED Equivalent plus 2 or more years prior experience as Traffic Monitoring Patroller or other related experience.
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).
  • Ability to drive, using an AECOM provided vehicle, patrolling and monitoring a segment of interstate roadway in an assigned region.
  • Possess a valid Virginia Class D License and a clean driving record in the last 3 years, including no suspension of license or single violation that Virginia Motor Vehicle treats as worth 6 demerits. Employees must also participate in monthly MVR monitoring program and maintain a satisfactory driving record as a condition of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and successfully participate in the program's mandatory random drug screening process.
  • Proven ability to manage tasks in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated professional maturity.
  • Proven ability to manage time and tasks professionally.

Work Environment/Physical requirements – Essential Functions:

  • Ability to lift up to 85 pounds.
  • Ability to pull/drag a force gauge to produce 160 ft./lbs of force with a contact point of 36 inches off the ground.
  • Ability to lift a 40-pound tool bag.
  • Ability to perform repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching and occasionally work with arms above shoulder level.
  • Ability to perform fine motor skills.
  • Ability to perform hand gripping/squeezing for hand tools and equipment (levers, jack handles, air compressor, jumper cables etc.).
  • Ability to occasionally work at heights less than 4ft.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to descend/ascend vehicle steps.

Please note: This position is contingent upon successfully completing functional tests for each essential function identified for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of driving experience.
  • Prior Safety Service Patrol Operator experience.
  • Knowledge/experience of incident management techniques.
  • Radio and telecommunications experience.
  • Possess or be able and willing to obtain CPR certifications.
  • Basic competency in using computers such as laptops, smart pads.
  • Working knowledge of basic automotive repair.
  • Demonstrate positive customer service attitude - both to co-workers (internal customers) and Customers.
  • Ability to work alternate work schedules and on-call duties at a 24/7/365 operation center; Schedules are dictated by need of operation and stated in advance. Schedules will vary.
  • Able to maintain situational awareness at all times.
  • Adherence to all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, regulations and standards related to traffic and motor vehicle operation and safety.
  • Ability to maintain a courteous and considerate demeanor at all times and constantly strive to provide customer excellence.
  • Willingness to consistently do their part to contribute and maintain a safe and secure workplace
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • High degree of autonomy in carrying out responsibilities requires a strong sense of judgement and self-motivation to perform, while also working in a team, collaborative environment.
  • Position is performed outdoors 100% of the time, along roadsides in an uncontrolled work environment.
  • Uniform compliance to ANSI 107 Class 3 standards and safety shoes meeting current ASTM F2413 standards (program provided).
  • Must be able to operate with a Safety-first mentality while adapting to changing conditions and at times performing multiple tasks.
  • Geographic familiarity with regional freeway system and arterial road.
