AECOM is looking to appoint an ambitious Principal Structural Engineer to join our Edinburgh based Water Structures team – whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. We're at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients. You will play a crucial role in the design and delivery of water-retaining and other civil structures across the UK, supporting major clients including Wessex Water, Scottish Water and the Northern Lighthouse Board.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Deliver: Lead and/or contribute to the design of water-retaining structures such as tanks, reservoirs, and pumping stations. Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, and specifications, with a particular focus on reinforced concrete (RC) design.
  • Expertise: Undertake structural inspections, site surveys, and supervision of construction activities. Support project planning, budgeting, and client communications.
  • Collaborate: Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions; providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Quality: Ensure compliance with relevant UK design codes and standards (e.g. Eurocodes); and contribute to continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

Ready to push the limits of what's possible?

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Structural Engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • Experience in structural engineering design, ideally within the UK water sector.
  • Experience in the design and construction of reinforced concrete structures.
  • Experience undertaking structural inspections and preparing detailed engineering reports.
  • Proficient in structural analysis and design software including TEDDs and SCIA, or similar 3D finite element modelling tools.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE or MIStructE) or approaching chartership.
  • Strong understanding of UK design codes and water industry standards.
  • Able to travel to site or client offices.
