Job Description

Start here. Grow here.

We are currently seeking a Principal Civil to lead a package of works as a Designer's Site Representative (DSR Package Lead) on a secure infrastructure project within 10 Dock at Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth.

This is a high-responsibility role suited to experienced professionals with a proven track record in leading site-based engineering operations on large-scale civil or structural projects—particularly in secure, highly regulated environments. As a DSR Package Lead, you will represent AECOM on-site and lead your package of works from a design assurance perspective, ensuring successful, safe, and compliant construction delivery in alignment with the design intent.

What you'll do!

You will be a key interface between the design teams, contractor, and client, managing site inspections, technical queries, and collaborative resolutions on a daily basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a package of structural or civil works as the main DSR representative for AECOM.
  • Oversee inspections and assurance of reinforced concrete and structural elements in line with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the design team on-site, managing communications between the design office, client, and contractor.
  • Review and provide feedback on contractor proposals, method statements, ITPs, and quality documentation.
  • Ensure SHE plans are developed to cover packages of work and review at regular intervals.
  • Manage and coordinate responses to Technical Queries (TQs) and interface issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across your package.
  • Review detailed technical reports and inspection records.
  • Participate in and lead relevant site meetings, progress reviews, and hold-point inspections.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss technical issues.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior site representatives and engineers.
  • Ensure risks and issues are escalated and addressed promptly.

Come grow with us:

And let's not forget about the perks at AECOM. You'll enjoy a range of core and personalized benefits designed to support your future and well-being, customized to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what's possible?

Requirements:

  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in delivering or supervising large civil or structural infrastructure projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of reinforced concrete design and detailing, including inspection requirements.
  • Extensive site-based experience with an emphasis on technical assurance and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills, especially in multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Sound understanding of construction health and safety practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a DSR or Resident Engineer role on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with working in secure or highly regulated environments (e.g., defence, nuclear, MOD).
  • Competency in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings and reinforcement layouts.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant industry standards.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng/IEng with ICE or IStructE) is highly desirable.

Important Details:

  • Ability to work full-time on-site within a secure facility.
  • Eligibility to obtain UK MOD Security Clearance is essential.
  • Valid CSCS card or ability to obtain one promptly.

At AECOM, we value everyone's unique contributions and perspectives. If you meet some of the requirements above or have transferable skills you believe would benefit us, we would be delighted to hear from you
