Job Description

Job Summary:

AECOM is a leading provider of professional and technical support to the water industry, local government and private developers.

We are looking for a talented Process Engineer with proven technical capacity to join our water team.

You will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic team on a challenging mix of projects in water and wastewater engineering.   • An interest in the water and / or wastewater treatment field; a wish to develop and gain knowledge and experience of primary and storm treatment processes, activated sludge, biological filtration, granular activated sludge systems, final settlement, package systems, membrane systems, sludge thickening dewatering and disposal, odour control and modelling, clean water treatment and chemical dosing plants.
  • Undertake process flow diagrams, mass balance calculations, a basic knowledge of PID's and the principles therein.
  • Develop and complete process engineering calculations, e.g., sizing of unit operations, and the associated design constraints.
  • Undertake survey and assessments of existing process/equipment (asset surveys); site visits to complete if required.
  • Feasibility and Optioneering Studies for wastewater treatment processes.
  • Undertake the role of technical secretary or scribe in HAZOP meetings with clients and develop an interest in this area (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure all technical documents and data are prepared and structured in accordance with relevant design standards and legislation, and AECOM QA standards.
  • Ensure the proposed design satisfies all operational and safety requirements and client technical standards.
  • Check and verify engineering documents in line with the appropriate technical and quality plans.
  • Providing documentation and drawing deliverables on time to meet project deadlines.
  • Assisting with the checking the work of other junior staff; knowledge of AECOM technical QA procedures.
  • Able to provide process commissioning support to site teams, if appropriate.
  • Represent AECOM in technical meetings with clients and work with engineers from other disciplines, ensuring an appropriate integrated solution.
  • An interest in emerging wastewater technologies and wastewater treatment innovation
  • To be an effective advocate and supporter of AECOM corporate strategic values and principles

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • An ambition to work towards Chartered Engineer status with IChemE or CIWEM
  • Excellent report writing, communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to travel to meet the needs of specific projects is desirable
  • Analytical and problem solving, attention to detail and creative thinking
  • Experience in design and build projects would be advantageous although not essential
  • Comfortable in the use of Microsoft office suite and Microsoft Teams
  • Knowledge of AutoCad and 3D design models such as Revit would be an advantage
  • Some level of commercial awareness, along with a willingness to learn
  • An ability to take direction and guidance, aligned with a positive attitude
  • An interest in municipal water and wastewater treatment, along with the associated unit processes and relevant design standards
  • A keen interest in functional safety (HAZOP studies)

Degree educated (MEng or MSc) or equivalent in Chemical Engineering or similar.
