Job Description

AECOM's Construction Management Practice is seeking a Construction Engineer (Junior Inspector II) to join our Construction Management team based in Glen Allen, VA. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering professional construction inspection services to our key clients. The successful candidate will join an established team performing construction inspection and oversight on capital improvement projects for AECOM's client, the City of Richmond's Department of Public Utilities. This position requires the ability to read and interpret technical design drawings, excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team. The successful candidate will be committed to the team's success and growth; will rigorously apply safety policies and procedures; will manage the technical, and schedule elements of project inspection and delivery; and will effectively manage the quality of field efforts and project deliverables within the bounds of the AECOM Quality Management System.

The job responsibilities for the position include, but will not be limited to:

  • Under general supervision, monitor and document construction activities of the construction contractor to ensure compliance with the plans and specifications
  • Displays knowledge and abilities to perform daily quality assurance inspections to assure the contractor's workmanship meets industry standards, is high quality, and that materials and equipment meet or exceed the requirements of the plans and specifications
  • Compares materials and equipment installed with approved submittals, shop drawings, requests for information, and change orders and take appropriate action if unapproved materials or equipment are utilized
  • Displays applications of sound professional judgment on details of work
  • Prepare and submit a daily inspection report to AECOM's construction manager
  • Performs project quantity surveys for tracking, reporting, and contractor payment purposes
  • Coordinates field matters, as necessary, between client personnel, contractor, design engineers, and third-party entities such as property owners, business, and other entities associated with the project
  • Under general supervision, performs routine duties
  • Displays knowledge and abilities to evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to meet basic engineering and construction specifications
  • Displays applications of sound professional judgment on details of work
  • Independently performs walk-downs and inspections of installed commodities to assure conformance with specifications and design
  • Performs quantity surveys for tracking and reporting
  • May provide technical direction to drafters, technicians, and surveyors

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Construction or related field + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review
  • As a condition of employment, candidates must pass a drug screening.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates must pass a medical screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering, Construction or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in construction management and inspection in the engineering or construction industry.
  • Familiarity with the Richmond, VA Region
  • Relevant Field Experience preferred
  • Success in working with remote teams
