Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Civil Engineering professional in the West Water Business Line for the Oakland, CA office. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Experience in and understanding of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis.
  • Strong background in probability and statistics
  • Excellent knowledge of one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Matlab, R.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret procedures, regulations, and technical information.
  • Work cooperatively as part of a team, interacting effectively with co-workers and clients;
  • Exhibit creativity and good problem-solving skills.
  • Effectively present both non-technical and technical information to clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to learn new software for communication, project management, and technical analysis

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS + 4 years of experience and or equivalency of experience and or education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in geophysics, engineering, or geology.
  • Past geosciences research experience e.g. through the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP)
  • Understanding and knowledge of site response analysis and experience with software
  • Understanding and knowledge of tsunami hazards.
  • Understanding of seismic source and strong ground motion characteristics, e.g. stress drop and path parameters such as crustal attenuation and kappa.
  • Programming in Fortran and/or C.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America (BSSA) or Earthquake Spectra
  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
