Position Summary
The NPI Factory Quality Engineer is responsible for the coordination of launch activities at the manufacturing location and creating/verifying launch process quality document and support program management gate reviews.
Responsibilities
- Lead for manufacturing location's NPI/AQP deliverables and confirms completion of the site's quality documents required internally and by the customer during the initial launch phases of a product, in conjunction with NPI team.
- Liaison for the site for all Advanced Quality Planning activities including internal gate reviews with the Business Unit and with the program team.
- Ensure that product functional specifications are included in the Control Plan.
- Support PFMEA activity to ensure functional specification requirements are fully met and confirm controls carried into the Control Plan.
- Coordinate with Industrial Engineering on the development and implementation of any Poke Yoke strategy and confirm controls carried into the Control Plan.
- Responsible for the confirmation and completion of the manufacturing location's readiness for launching programs and product/process changes.
- Support and attend launch program meetings and customer process reviews/audits.
- Coordinates the development of production process Control Plan and Safe Launch Plan and update the Control Plan until formal program start of production.
- Coach and support the manufacturing team on the customer product quality requirements and site's AQP requirements.
- Monitors the approval of supplied components.
- Conduct AQP program gate reviews to confirm site APQP activities are complete with the appropriate evidence, readiness assessment is completed, and that all site APQP documents are on time to program commitments.
- Ensure MSA studies and adequate Gage R&R for launching programs are conducted.
- Has the authority and the responsibility to stop any process or product delivery in case of a non-conformance of customer expectations, safety, or environmental risks.
- Adhere to organizational requirements on quality management, health and safety, code of conduct, legal stipulations, environmental, 5S policies, and general duty of care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
- Location: Penang Science Park, Simpang Ampat Penang.
- AE is a highly dynamic, technically challenging, and fast-paced manufacturing work place.
- Works in a standard office environment, fast-paced & busy manufacturing areas/labs, and clean-room environment.
- Need to go to the production area frequently.
Qualifications
Essential
- Strong interpersonal communication and listening ability.
- English communication skills in verbal and written.
- Practical experience in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools, tool usage, and NPI program management.
- Competent in problem solving tools such as 8D methodology:
- Is-Is Not / Fishbone diagram / Brainstorming
- 3x 5 Why
- Competent in quality tools, and process/production control methods such as:
- FMEA
- Control plans
- MSA
- Capability study Cpk
- SPC
- Product life cycle and Reliability
- Ability to read and interpret specifications to ensure the understanding of the agreed quality parameters and product specific requirements.
Desirable
- Knowledge of customer specific requirements.
- Knowledge of manufacturing on highly engineered, precision power conversion, measurement, and control solutions for several applications and processes.
- Knowledge of ISO9001:2015 requirements and internal auditor certification is preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Experience
Essential
- Minimum six (6) + year previous experience in industry.
- Have in-process quality control or engineering experience, preferably with knowledge of electronic product manufacturing process.
- Experienced with working in a fast-paced, high mix low volume manufacturing environment.
- Experienced with manufacturing quality or product quality management.
- Knowledgeable of SPC, Variation Control, and MSA or GR&R techniques.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems and copy exactly requirements.
Desirable
- Experience in the analysis, visualization, and presentation of complex data.
- The 6-Sigma background is preferred.
- NPI experience is preferred.
Education
Essential
- Bachelor Science in Mechanical, Electronic, or Electrical Engineering is preferred, or college graduation but with five years work experience.
- MBA – desired.
