Study the stowage plan, establish and execute a discharging sequence in agreement with the vessel chief, and monitor cargo handling rates hourly to ensure operations meet port benchmarks.
Develop operations plans to prevent cargo and vessel clashes, coordinate with the Port Operations Center (POC)/marine for berthing schedules, and appoint stevedores, surveyors, and handling agents in consultation with relevant managers.
Control costs and prevent financial losses due to cargo contamination, mix-ups, or non-achievement of General Dock Rules (GDR) and General Loading Rules (GLR). Achieve cost savings through the reduction of variable equipment hires and efficient equipment utilization.
Ensure the timely availability and deployment of necessary resources, including labor, equipment, operators, and dumpers, for loading and unloading operations.
Conduct toolbox talks with contract labor and operators, maintain accurate headcounts, and ensure adherence to safety norms, including the use of certified lifting equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Monitor and prevent spillage during cargo operations, maintain high standards of housekeeping on the jetty, and ensure the cleanliness of the working area.
Prepare and maintain essential documentation, including logbooks, protest letters, stowage certificates, and completion certificates.
Monitor key performance indicators, encourage a culture of learning and continuous improvement, and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of stevedoring operations.
Keep up with digital and AI advancements to enhance business and maintain competitiveness.
