Welding Engineer

This position is part of the xEV Regional PE group for Electric Vehicle products, focusing on the Motor programs. The role involves establishing equipment, processes, and quotations for Motor product-related programs, specifically developing and implementing mass production welding operations. The position aims to find new, cost-effective solutions for welding operations in automotive motor manufacturing and identify synergy potentials and best practices for cost-effective solutions. The engineer will work closely with project management to support installations, new launches, and special/capital projects, with a focus on robotic welding. The role is predominantly floor-based, with an 80% floor and 20% office split, emphasizing cycle time reduction and line side support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of mass production welding operations for automotive motors.
  • Identify and apply cost-effective solutions and best practices for welding operations.
  • Collaborate with project management to support installations, new launches, and special/capital projects.
  • Provide support for robotic welding, with an emphasis on cycle time reduction and line side support.
  • Design and develop automated weld systems.
  • Develop and oversee priorities and objectives in cooperation with site management teams.
  • Support production specific for robotic welding.

Essential Skills

  • Expertise in TIG Welding.
  • Experience with materials including Stainless Steel, Aluminum, and Copper.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Engineering Degree.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Robotics is a plus.
  • Experience with Panasonic Welding Robots.
  • Familiarity with laser welding.
  • Proficiency in weld inspection using 2D/3D camera systems, specifically Keyence vision systems.
  • Experience in SolidWorks, manufacturing engineering, and lean manufacturing.

Work Environment

The work environment includes typical Monday to Friday hours with occasional support required during evenings and weekends, especially during launches. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods and may involve up to 30% domestic and international travel as needed.

Pay and Benefits
