Test Engineer

A Test Engineer drives the full lifecycle of mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems qualification testing for engineering products and designs. This includes tailoring various test documents to meet customer-established and/or mission-specific requirements, executing test activities in a controlled environment with certified instrumentation, authoring technical documentation through each stage activity, responding to comments and questions generated by the customer, and guiding design improvements. Higher-level Test Engineers influence testing strategy, mentor team members, and enable seamless cross-functional collaboration—from initial program phases through final certification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop customer-tailored test qualification procedures to align with specific military standards and mission profiles.
  • Design specific instrumentation requirements for testing and setup fixtures for accurate, repeatable, and reliable testing.
  • Execute qualification testing in controlled environments such as vibration, EMI/EMC, and environmental test chambers.
  • Perform test data logging, in-depth analysis, and after-action reporting while providing informed actionable suggestions.
  • Conduct on-the-spot troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for issues occurring before, during, and after test events.
  • Write and review customer-vetted technical plans, procedures, and reports covering test activities from cradle to grave.
  • Provide ideas and support on efforts to improve test infrastructure, tools, and internal processes.

Essential Skills

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledgeable about data analysis, statistical interpretation, and technical writing.
  • Familiarity with forms of testing such as environmental, vibration, shock, EMI/EMC, and human-factors testing.
  • Ability to operate in siloed environments as well as cross-functionally with various engineering teams.
  • Ability and willingness to acquire secret level government clearance.
  • Willingness to travel to complete test events at out-of-state partner/DoD facilities (up to 15%).
  • U.S. Person status (ITAR requirement).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience in Engineering, Science, or a related academic discipline.
  • Experience with Microsoft suite and ability to work with multiple SharePoint sites.
  • Tailoring and executing DoD-standardized tests such as vibration, shock, and EMI/EMC is preferred.
  • Knowledge of official military standards and specifications (MILSPEC) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, Teams, and/or other internet-based collaboration platforms.

Work Environment

The role operates within a high-tech defense and naval engineering environment, utilizing various technologies and equipment. The engineer will work in controlled environments, such as vibration and environmental test chambers, and will engage with cross-functional engineering teams. Travel to partner and DoD facilities is required occasionally, and there is a need to acquire secret level government clearance. The work involves collaboration across multiple SharePoint sites and internet-based platforms.
