Systems Engineer

We are seeking a systems engineer to support a large naval acoustics program. This role focuses on hardware-centric systems engineering, including specification development, interface design, and integration down to the sensor or module level. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage hardware specifications for sonar systems, including shock, vibration, and ship safety requirements.
• Work with schematics, cards, power assemblies, and function generators.
• Translate high-level requirements into actionable tasks; support verification and validation activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (SW, DSP, integration) to ensure seamless hardware/software integration.
• Support test configuration planning and execution for active and passive sonar systems.
• Investigate technical issues, propose solutions, and drive resolution independently.

Essential Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of systems engineering experience supporting DoD or Navy programs.
• Experience with requirements development, verification, and validation.
• Experience with hardware-dependent systems, including sensor design and high-voltage electronics.
• Experience with reading and interpreting schematics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience with active and passive sonar systems or signal processing.
• Familiarity with MBSE tools (Cameo, MagicDraw) and modeling languages (SysML, UML).
• Working knowledge of MATLAB, and/or C++ for signal analysis or waveform evaluation.
• Experience with test planning and execution.
• Understanding of active sonar (energy transmission and return signal analysis) and passive sonar (hydrophone-based listening).
• Prior experience as a technical lead or product owner in an agile environment.

Work Environment:

100% onsite. This opportunity offers the chance to work with a center of excellence for undersea warfare platforms. Job Type & Location:

This is a contract position based out of Manassas, VA.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $85.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
