Substation Engineer

We are seeking experienced Substation Engineers specializing in Protection & Control (P&C) and/or Physical aspects due to continued growth. This role offers a chance to work within a project team environment, collaborating with engineers and designers on detailed electrical design and project management for distribution and transmission substation projects. You will play an active role in project conceptualization, planning, and execution, tackling challenging assignments that involve investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving a wide range of electrical engineering and design issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the conceptualization and execution of substation projects.
  • Prepare typical deliverables such as Facility Studies, General Arrangement, Equipment Plans and Sections, Foundation Plans, Grounding and Conduit Plans, Equipment Connection Details, Control Building Plans, and Sections.
  • Perform substation grounding calculations, direct stroke shielding calculations, and battery & charger sizing calculations.
  • Travel to client sites as needed to support project requirements.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 3+ years of experience in the physical layout and design of Transmission and Distribution Substations.
  • Proficiency in physical design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and 3D models.
  • Understanding of engineering science and technology with the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with electrical design software such as MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of utility systems and substation design processes.
  • Strong drafting and engineering skills.

Work Environment:

This position offers a hybrid work schedule based in the Denver office, with flexibility. You will join a dynamic team in a company ranked 36th on the ENR top 500 design firms, with opportunities to grow into project management and client-facing roles. The company is privately held and boasts a history of over 130 years, with offices across the country and a focus on expanding the Denver office to meet the booming infrastructure needs. The work environment fosters growth and collaboration, with a focus on updating the country's infrastructure systems.

Job Type & Location:

This is a contract to hire position based out of Englewood, Colorado.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $60.00/hr.
