Structural Engineer

As a Structural Engineer, you will perform structural analysis and design for various building systems, including steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and foundations. You will prepare structural calculations, drawings, and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with building codes, standards, and client requirements. You will coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and other consultants throughout all project phases and review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction. Additionally, you will conduct site visits, provide construction-phase support, assist with project scheduling, scope development, and coordination meetings, and support junior engineers while contributing to technical quality control.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for building systems including steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and foundations.
• Prepare structural calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and other consultants throughout all project phases.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, standards, and client requirements.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction.
• Conduct site visits and provide construction-phase support as needed.
• Assist with project scheduling, scope development, and coordination meetings.
• Support junior engineers and contribute to technical quality control.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in structural design and engineering.
• Experience with structural analysis, concrete, and drafting.
• Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, Risa 3D, and structural steel design.
• B.S. in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• EIT certification.
• PE certification or on track for PE.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in structural design, structural engineering, and structural analysis.
• Knowledge of design and drafting with a focus on concrete and steel structures.

Work Environment

This employee-owned company, established in 1979, provides a collaborative work environment with a multidisciplinary team offering mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, curtain wall, and civil services. The company has offices in Minneapolis, MN, Naperville, and downtown Chicago, with the largest teams located in Naperville and Chicago. The business casual dress code complements the flexible work schedule, which includes'summer hours' year-round: 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM Monday to Thursday, and a half-day on Friday from 7:30 AM to Noon. Employees work in-office three days a week and from home two days, with flexibility in attendance. The office is conveniently located less than five minutes from the I-88 / Rt. 59 interchange, with a parking lot available. A kitchen with a microwave is available for employee use. Current projects mainly involve tenant improvement, community developments, mixed-use, and commercial buildings.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Naperville, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.08/hr.
