Software Verification Engineer

The Software Verification Engineer plans, executes, and documents software verification activities for regulated medical device products, with a strong focus on Android tablet applications. This role ensures that application and connected software systems meet defined requirements and comply with applicable regulatory standards. The engineer collaborates closely with software developers, systems engineers, quality, and regulatory affairs teams to support product development throughout the full software lifecycle, with particular emphasis on automated testing for an Implantable Pulse Generator, a Wand, and a Programmer.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and document software verification activities for regulated medical device software, including Android tablet applications.
  • Perform automated and manual software testing to verify that applications and connected systems meet defined functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Update and refine existing test plans and test cases as projects progress and requirements evolve.
  • Support verification activities for software associated with an Implantable Pulse Generator, a Wand, and a Programmer, ensuring end-to-end system validation.
  • Execute verification and validation tasks for Android software, including GUI, firmware interactions, and Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Ensure all verification activities comply with applicable medical device regulatory standards and internal quality procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with software developers, systems engineers, quality, and regulatory affairs throughout the full software lifecycle.
  • Document test results clearly and accurately, including defects, deviations, and traceability to requirements.
  • Identify, report, and track software defects, working with cross-functional teams to support timely resolution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes, tools, and automation frameworks used for software verification.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in software verification and testing.
  • Strong experience with automated software testing, including designing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts.
  • Hands-on experience testing Android software, particularly on tablet platforms.
  • Proven experience working with software in a regulated medical device environment.
  • Experience verifying software that interacts with firmware, graphical user interfaces (GUI), and Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Ability to interpret and work from established test plans and update them as project requirements change.
  • Strong understanding of software verification principles and practices within the full software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to produce clear, thorough, and compliant test documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with verification of connected medical device systems, including implantable devices and external programmers.
  • Familiarity with regulatory expectations and standards related to medical device software development and verification.
  • Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams that include software development, systems engineering, quality, and regulatory functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to complex software and system-level behavior.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to test design, execution, and documentation.

Work Environment

This role requires working primarily onsite, typically four days per week, with potential for some flexibility as the project progresses. The position supports a critical-path medical device project, and the engineer should expect to work approximately 50 hours per week on a regular basis. Work centers on verification of Android tablet software and its interaction with medical device hardware, including implantable systems and associated programmers and accessories. The environment is highly regulated and quality-focused, with close collaboration among engineering, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance and product safety.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
