Software Systems Engineer

Join a pioneering Systems Modeling team dedicated to architecting, developing, and maintaining the Telesat Lightspeed System Model application. This state-of-the-art engineering software tool operates on high-performance computing infrastructure, specializing in resource allocation and evaluating the end-to-end system performance of the Telesat Lightspeed satellite constellation.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and validate advanced algorithms in MATLAB to optimize system performance and reliability while adhering to system requirements.
• Collaborate with the Software Development and Quality Assurance teams to integrate new algorithms, upgrade existing ones, and enhance testing coverage.
• Improve link budget performance with a focus on RF.
• Work closely with the Software Development team for efficient software integration of new and upgraded algorithms.
• Interface with other engineering disciplines to define satellite payload and ground segment characteristics, performance metrics, evaluations, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Support detailed studies of system performance validating the concept of operation between satellite and ground systems.
• Draft technical requirements and documentation.

Essential Skills:

• Extensive MATLAB programming and development experience.
• Proficiency in algorithm development.
• Experience with Linux and mathematical software.
• Strong Python scripting skills.
• Experience in RF systems modeling and satellite communication.
• Requirements analysis and algorithmic software development.
• Experience with link budget and link analysis software.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Understanding of Mathematical Optimization (MILP).
• Experience with satellite systems and orbital mechanics.
• Research experience in UAV networks.
• Knowledge of MIP/MILP (linear programming).

Work Environment:

This role is based on-site in downtown Ottawa, with a hybrid work schedule allowing for four days in the office and one day remote (Wednesday). This opportunity is part of a long-term consulting engagement within one of the fastest-growing companies in the NCR, contributing to the largest space program in Canadian history.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Ottawa, ON.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $72.00/hr.
