Flight Management Systems (FMS) Systems/Software Engineer

This role focuses on supporting the development, integration, and certification of Flight Management System (FMS) software and systems for safety-critical avionics programs. You will work across the full software lifecycle to define and refine requirements, support DO-178-compliant development activities, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, certifiable FMS solutions.

Responsibilities

• Support Flight Management System (FMS) development and integration activities for avionics programs.
• Develop, review, and maintain clear, testable, and traceable system and software requirements in support of FMS functions.
• Ensure all requirements remain fully traceable throughout the software lifecycle and comply with DO-178 objectives.
• Support DO-178 (DAL A–C) compliant development activities and contribute to certification readiness.
• Collaborate with systems, software, integration, and verification teams across the V-model lifecycle to ensure alignment and consistency.
• Support integration of software components within the FMS and related avionics subsystems, resolving interface and compatibility issues.
• Analyze requirement changes and assess downstream impacts on integration, verification, and certification activities.
• Contribute to test planning by helping define test strategies, test cases, and acceptance criteria for FMS functions.
• Support issue resolution by investigating defects, analyzing root causes, and collaborating with teams to implement corrective actions.
• Assist in achieving key program milestones by providing technical input, documentation, and integration support as needed.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of systems or software engineering experience.
• At least 3 years of experience working in a DO-178 environment, including DAL A–C activities.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience supporting Flight Management Systems (FMS).
• At least 3 years of experience in systems or software integration for avionics programs.
• At least 3 years of experience developing system and/or software requirements.
• Strong understanding of Flight Management Systems (FMS) concepts and functions.
• Practical experience with systems or software integration in avionics environments.
• Demonstrated ability to write, review, and maintain clear, testable, and traceable requirements.
• Familiarity with safety-critical software development practices and certification processes in aerospace.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Phoenix, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
