We are seeking an experienced Signaling Engineer to join a major rail infrastructure project in Western Canada. This role is critical to maintaining signaling integrity and supporting design quality across multiple scopes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with signaling logic, microprocessor integration, and application-level software for railway systems. This position offers a hybrid work model with site visits as needed, and it is a contract role with the potential for extension.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and validate signaling designs for compliance with AREMA standards and project specifications.
  • Analyze signaling logic and identify design errors before implementation.
  • Support integration of signaling systems at the application layer, including microprocessor-based systems.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, signaling leads, and third-party contractors.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for signaling systems.
  • Provide technical input during design reviews and commissioning phases.
  • Troubleshoot signaling issues during integration and testing.
  • Ensure adherence to Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) and relevant safety standards.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings to align technical requirements.
  • Assist in preparing technical interview questions and screening criteria for candidates.

Essential Skills:

  • 7+ years of railway signaling experience, including field testing and commissioning on North American mainline railways.
  • Experience with microprocessor-based signaling systems.
  • Familiarity with application-level signaling software (e.g., Alstom, Thales systems).
  • Ability to assess signaling logic and troubleshoot design issues.
  • Knowledge of signal testing procedures, including factory acceptance testing and track-level commissioning.
  • Understanding of AREMA standards and Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR).
  • Strong ability to collaborate with design engineers, signaling leads, and third-party contractors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with relay signaling and interlocking systems.
  • Competence in programming fundamentals (C, Python) for integration purposes.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management and documentation for signaling systems.
  • Experience with ISO15288 life cycle processes (Stakeholder Requirements, Architecture Definition, Integration, Verification & Validation).
  • Familiarity with EN50126 standards for railway safety and reliability.
  • Exposure to international signaling practices, though the role is North American focused.
  • Ability to develop technical screening questions and assist in candidate evaluation.

Work Environment:

This position operates within a hybrid work model, requiring site visits as needed. The work involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams on large rail projects, ensuring the adherence to safety standards and regulations. Technologies and equipment used include microprocessor-based systems and application-level software such as Alstom and Thales.
