Senior Quality Engineer

The Senior Quality Engineer will own and maintain the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, lead internal and external audits, and partner closely with engineering and production to ensure compliance, product quality, and continuous improvement. This role will act as the Senior technical quality authority on site and provide day-to-day guidance to inspectors without serving as a formal Quality Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • Lead internal and external audits.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure compliance and product quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the Senior technical quality authority on site.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to quality inspectors.

Essential Skills

  • 5โ€“10+ years of progressive Quality Engineering experience in manufacturing.
  • Deep ISO 9001 experience, including audits and system maintenance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to defense and DoD work.
  • ISO 9001:2015 ownership and hands-on QMS management.
  • Experience in manufacturing quality engineering in regulated environments.
  • Leadership in internal and external audit processes.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis, CAPA, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification.
  • Experience in mil-spec or defense manufacturing.
  • Background in aerospace or highly regulated manufacturing.
  • Experience in small to mid-sized companies (20โ€“50 employees).
  • Supplier quality evaluation and audits.
  • Exposure to First Article Inspection, FAIR, and PPAP.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • High attention to detail and documentation discipline.
  • Ability to balance hands-on work with system-level thinking.

Work Environment

The position is based onsite in a small, collaborative manufacturing environment. Work hours are Monday through Friday. The company has approximately 28 total employees, with roughly 50 percent working in the shop and 50 percent in office/engineering roles. The team culture is tight-knit and collaborative, with high safety standards and pride in facility cleanliness. The business is extremely stable with long-term DoD contracts, and the facility has had no reportable OSHA incidents in over 7 years. The workflow is even-paced with low chaos, and the leadership team is described as genuine, ethical, and people-first. The company has a family-style culture without family politics, high employee retention, and pride in their product mission.

This is a Permanent position based out of Thomaston, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $120000.00/yr.

Base Salary: $110,000โ€“$120,000 Bonus: Annual incentive bonus, typically ~10 percent of base (cash payout) Medical Insurance: 100 percent company-paid premiums 401(k): Traditional and Roth options plus annual profit sharing (typically ~7.5 percent of compensation) PTO: Minimum 3 weeks vacation to start (senior-level role) 10 sick days 2 personal days 1 floating holiday 12โ€“13 paid holidays annually Additional Benefits: Company-paid life insurance (up to $60K) Short-term and long-term disability fully covered Tuition and professional development reimbursement (up to ~$5,200 annually) Wellness reimbursement up to $300 annually
