Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of cutting-edge systems, mechanisms, and components for custom automated machinery and tools. This role involves spearheading the integration of robotics, sensors, and other automation peripherals, ensuring project budgets and schedules are met, and providing mentorship to junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of systems, mechanisms, and components for custom automated machinery and tools.
- Develop, improve, and drive best practices and standards continuously.
- Integrate off-the-shelf and custom robotics, actuation, sensors, vision systems, and other automation peripherals.
- Meet project budgets and schedules and coordinate progress with project managers and other stakeholders.
- Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of designs.
- Provide training and mentorship to other Engineers including reviewing and approving their work.
- Guide the production team during the build and commissioning of machines.
- Validate designs by building and testing prototypes when necessary.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams on controls and software integration.
- Manage external suppliers and coordinate with customers to refine and align on project requirements.
- Support equipment deployment at customer sites as needed.
Essential Skills
- 6+ years designing custom automated equipment.
- Mastery of SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
- Proficiency in engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T, Y14.5M-2009.
- Extensive knowledge of materials and fabrication processes such as machining and welding.
- Proficiency with controls and software concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven expertise in designing fixtures, jigs, and other tooling.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- BS or higher degree in engineering field preferred.
- 8+ years in a mechanical design role in custom industrial automation and/or machine building.
- Understanding of CE, NFPA 79, and SEMI S8 compliance.
- Direct experience troubleshooting automated equipment.
- Ability to specify vision equipment, including lens, lighting, filters, and sensors.
Work Environment
This position offers a fast-paced, hands-on, and collaborative work environment within a services company that specializes in turnkey custom automation. The role involves developing automated systems from the ground up, including customization, design, fabrication, programming, and debugging, all conducted in-house.
Job Type & Location
This is a permanent position based out of Simi Valley, California.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $130000.00/yr. Health, dental, vision, 401k, life insurance policy, short and long term disability, employee assistance program, PTO, vacation, sick.
